Apple Pie Hill Tower Open Saturday

I picked up Sign Posts from the library again to see what Bisbee says about the name, but it's not much we don't already know here: Spung-Man already posted this very record. Certainly no mention of "Petty Coat Pile." Neither the "it kinda looks like an apple pie" or "it's named after a...

    MillVine NJ

If you happen to be nearby the Millville airport and you like beer then definitely check out Glasstown Brewing. Nice taproom and they make some very good brew, IPAs especially. There also used to be a moonshine distillery across the street, Jersey Shine, but I think they have since closed...

That'd be the Mojave desert barrens, not the Pine Barrens, right? Here?

No worries, just posted for your interest. I don't really talk to anybody else who runs a map site.

    PMTiles

Nope, it works for raster tiles as well. Here's a demo: https://protomaps.github.io/PMTiles/examples/maplibre_raster_dem.html It's explained in the docs (and also in the GitHub link above). And you should be able to use this with just about any hosting provider, it doesn't have to be Amazon...

    PMTiles

I saw this referenced on Hacker News over the weekend and thought you might find it at least interesting, if you aren't already aware of it. Intro/demo: https://protomaps.com/ Technical explanation: https://protomaps.com/blog/dynamic-maps-static-storage Code...

Yes, it has the frontispiece map as well!

    New Roads

I would strap myself to a tree to defend the YMCA camps from a bulldozer. I love it out there. Black Run, too. If you want to go 206 to 73, what's the matter with the southern route, Oak Shade to Jackson? Keeps you away from the Marlton congestion on Rt 70 and you get to drive through a nice...

Report of the NJ State Museum 1910

It's the whole thing, the original 1911 printing. The pages match up with your link. The only thing I see that's different is the binding is green with gold letters on the cover in the digitized copy; mine is red with no title on the cover. That must have changed at some point. It wasn't...

Report of the NJ State Museum 1910

I saw that it was digitized online, but was actually nuts enough to still want a physical copy. I've been trying to slowly learn more about local species, and this is a great reference. I also just like old books like this. The frontispiece with "Woodrow Wilson, Governor of New Jersey" - 1911...

Apple Pie Hill Tower Open Saturday

Park Service had this little info page printed out: Where did "Petty Coat Pile" come from? This is the exact kind of situation where I'd like to see what Doc Bisbee has to say about it, but that book still eludes me. I think I'll have to check it out from the library again.

    Hampton upper forge?

I was wondering this exact same thing to myself looking at LIDAR last week, so I went back there and checked it out. It's not as interesting as it looks. Just a spot for ATVs to do donuts :(

Apple Pie Hill Tower Open Saturday

I got the notification email as well - I stopped by in the morning. It was very nice and clear. I have been up in the cab of the Medford tower before, years ago, but not up this one. I am not a fan of heights. Still, I at least got some shots. I noticed the recent burn has kind of uncovered...

    Goshen in Camden or Burlington?

I read that as, "I have never seen a series of canals that transport and bypass water, typically with a reservoir in a bog that was built right into the watershed."

    Goshen in Camden or Burlington?

I assumed Boyer, taking notes in the 1930s that became Old Inns and Taverns, meant the old route of Jackson/Atsion Rd, this: Since this really does connect Berlin and at least a point close to Atsion. This still works with the identified location. His description just wasn't that clear.

You may also want to check out this thread - looks like this very topic has been discussed before. Hopefully linking to a specific post is working.

I bought a gun and intend to use it.

It seems to be a real phenomenon, at least in nearby areas. Here's a relevant study, but this is from North Jersey: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0378112719303044 Maybe there are some mitigating factors in play in this area; overabundance of other understory plants...

    Identify this structure?

I was checking out one of these last week, right here, although this is clearly a different one than the OP. Right by the road. Looks like there's a few on the McDonalds Branch. As you can see, a real talented artist did some work on the door. There's an empty attached metal shed with a gas...
