Pooping prohibited in Wharton State Forest

No wimpy caution tape for this state forest. You're not getting in here without some serious tools. Plus an official sign to warn you off (even though the sign is wrong - "temporarily closed due to repair"?)

Osprey nest on GSP sign post?

Almost 2 years later, I think they are back. Saw 2 ospreys on the Exit 50 New Gretna / Tuckerton 1 Mile sign this morning, around mile marker 49 northbound GSP. It did really look like they are building or rebuilding a nest up there.

    Isolation 2020

About those contactless cards: The state forests that have offices that accept credit cards for purchases got new terminals last year and they include contactless card readers, on long wires that reach out to the customers. They work with a credit card that has that 3-arc symbol for contactless...

    Isolation 2020

OK, thanks. I think if a store wanted my card handed to them and a paper signature, I would probably leave my purchases there and walk out. Except - my auto mechanic does that and I like them. But maybe they've changed. Or maybe they don't have a credit card reader the the customer can reach...

I agree about the cash - I can see the cashiers would really rather not take cash. Except gas stations - they don't seem to have a problem with it. But aside from contactless payments, can't you use credit or debit cards without touching anything that doesn't belong to you? Insert card in chip...

    Isolation 2020

Regarding Home Depot, have you tried order online from home for pickup in store? My store has lockers in the entry area where you can pick up items - if they are small enough to fit. I've done this for items they have to ship to the store. If the item is in the store, then they should be ready...

Your first digital pictures of the Pines

I got into digital much later, April 2006, with a compact camera that was basically a piece of junk. But yes, it was so much fun - at least until the batteries died, which they did often and without warning. Still, I never went back to film. This picture (sorry, I am truly ashamed about the...

Pooping prohibited in Wharton State Forest

By the way, why is that Batona Camp sign on the ground? I can't image Parks people pulling it up and then leaving it there, to indicate the campground is closed.

Parks, Forests, WMAs open only for passive recreation

Just curious about this Apple Pie Hill alarm that has been mentioned before. Do you think they have a motion sensor? That plus alarm, just to scare people away from trying to get in and up? Because it sounds like it gets set off without people actually trying to breach the fence.

Pooping prohibited in Wharton State Forest

Delicately worded on the parks' FB pages: "... please also remember to "go" before you go out to parks."

Anyone know what's up with these blue dog paw print signs?

Not sure if you are serious or not, but I get the impression there will be no charges, no judge, no sentence. And 2 more signs were reported today. I used your excellent maps (boydsmaps.com) to find the village they named, and to see what part of Wharton it was in or nearby.

Anyone know what's up with these blue dog paw print signs?

There are dedications on benches all over. I assume people pay the State Park Service to do this for them, and while the ones I've seen are probably for people, I don't see why pets would be disallowed. I know of one off-trail grave marker for a dog at Bass River SF. Of course these are not...

Parks, Forests, WMAs open only for passive recreation

It's good to hear people are out. Standing almost in one place, on a single trail, in a single forest, as I was for several hours is not a good way to judge how many people are out there.

Anyone know what's up with these blue dog paw print signs?

There's an update on this. State Park Police have identified and communicated with a person who might be responsible for some or all of the paw print signs and sprays. It sounds like they think the person was doing it in memory of their dog, who liked to walk those places.

Parks, Forests, WMAs open only for passive recreation

I was trimming a trail today for about 4-5 hours in a small area and nobody passed me. I did see 3 people - 2 women walking their dogs, and another woman runner - but they were on sand roads that aren't part of the marked trail. Not much to go on, but it does seem like fewer people are out...

Parks, Forests, WMAs open only for passive recreation

I'm doing some trail maintenance tomorrow (Friday), which means moving very slowly along the trail, so anyone else on the trail is sure to pass me. I'll see how many do. I hope people aren't staying home because they are afraid to be outside. I agree with the "healthful passive recreation"...

Parks, Forests, WMAs open only for passive recreation

In case you didn't see it, today DEP closed all campgrounds, visitor centers, nature centers, restrooms, etc. All existing camping reservations have been canceled, with refunds. Roads, parking areas, trails, lakes, and other open spaces are open for passive recreation only. This applies to all...

Ticks? Anyone seen them recently? Cumberland Cty

I have not found ticks yet. More to the point, ticks have not found me yet.

Anyone know what's up with these blue dog paw print signs?

Update: Batona trail crew and others have been working to remove the signs or sprays. Still no idea who is doing it or why, although "Blues Clues" was mentioned again. I find it hard to believe a single person is responsible, due to the wide range of locations and the number of signs. Also...

Anyone know what's up with these blue dog paw print signs?

Thanks, yes I see it. She did tell me she was going to post it. And you can tell she isn't happy. But posts there say these things were seen at Franklin Parker Preserve, and Munion Field Rd in Bass River SF. Could it be one person doing all that? They would be covering a lot of ground.
