Have a National Park as Your Backdrop

Nice. Your link makes me think of the "house with an incredible view" which we always pass while driving up an unpaved mountain road to Dolly Sodds in WV's Monongahela National Forest. I've always dreamed of living in that place. It was for sale for years, but I never priced it knowing it would...

    Tuesday with Alfie

Last week we hiked a length of the Batsto River, from the railroad trestle south of Hampton Furnace to the junction of Springer Creek and the Batsto. The area pinched between the forks is beautiful and open, filled with a fine display of lichen and heather. With one more free Tuesday between us...

Sorry, Guy. I should label my photos for location. I'll head back and do that now.

I took the photo looking down into the ditch/canal off to the right located back near the property line (close to where Sophie did the doo-doo voodoo). Bob's keen attention to detail amazes me. Been meaning to post some recent Tuesday-trip pine-barrens photos. Tons, narrowed down to a few...

    bay days

I'm not sure there is anything that could have been done to save Sea Breeze. I agree with the commentary in the video stating that the wall constructed there is a joke. But, without being an expert, simply being at Sea Breeze during a normal high tide is intimidating. One cannot help but sense...

    bay days

It looks like the days are numbered for the abandoned shacks and houses at Sea Breeze. According to signage along with some fencing and boundary marking, the bay ghost town is being converted into a nature preserve. It's time.

The beat goes on (continued from post #337) as the three stooges (two human) continue their journey through Franklin Parker Preserve, take an emergency medical visit, then head on over to the prettiest spot on the Skit (and possibly in all of Wharton (tho no photograph could ever reveal this))...

    Tuesday with Alfie

I fell in love with Sophie today. Alfie was along, but I don't like him so much anymore. The three of us spent a good chunk of our day at the Franklin Parker Preserve. I was pleasantly surprised! It's very nice there! This'll be the first of a two-part post. Take us away, Sophie...

    Gratitude

Gloria Repp's interest in the Pine Barrens began years ago, during family visits to the grandparents in New Jersey. After her children grew up, she made further trips to explore the Pine Barrens wilderness, and one spring she listened to its frogs. She found them irresistible. Soon afterwards...

    Lots of Rain

We got crushed in western Cumberland County. Unofficially, I heard between 10 and 11 inches. Several closed roads; it's a challenge getting around. My back yard. Still beautiful.

    bay days

It's beginning to look like Sea Breeze might be left for nature to claim. I wish a major storm had taken her before folks had fun ravaging the bay community. Yet Chase put it well in words on another thread. With all the sad things going on along the abandoned shore, there are also beautiful...

    another barren night

These were all taken with the Powershot, Alfie. I prefer the Rebel for flash photos, which was with me last night -- but my recharged battery was still in its charger, home & 1.5 hours away. I forgot it. :(

    another barren night

Following in Guy's footsteps and visited Friendship bogs again this evening. This will probably be my final frogtography effort of the season. It was a muggy, mosquito filled evening. I found one very cooperative green frog and awaited some wonkers after sunset. I'll put these in two batches...

    Tree Frog at Friendship Bogs

Guy, Did you return to Friendship for this? I'll probably be heading there this evening. Every Memorial Day Weekend I usually visit the bogs for my final WONK!fest of the season. While there a couple of weeks ago, the mosquitoes were so bad they picked me up and dropped me to the ground 25 feet...
