    NJPineBarrens.com 10th Anniversary

I can't remember how I found the site, but it's been a pleasure to be a part of the forums. I feel like I've met many kindred spirits, even though I've never met many of you in person. I've learned to better appreciate how fortunate we are to have a place like the pine barrens, because, I grew...

    Stupid is as stupid does

I've been traversing the pines for 4 decades now. Do you think I'd know better? Out in the woods alone, no cell phone, no come along or chain (both safely stored in my garage). no winch. The picture is self explanatory. Greg (A.K.A. Moron)

    Batsto River

Thanks Scott. I've been blessed in life to have counted 2 of my brothers as close friends. My oldest brother Bud , who passed away in 1997, and I used to "bandit camp" for a week once a year during permit bow. We hunted a few hours morning and evening, and spent the rest of the time catching up...

    Batsto River

I spent a great day Sunday with my best friend (and brother) Tom at Batsto last Sunday. The yellow and white water lilliy's were the nicest I remember. The Pickerel Weed was just starting to bloom. I took a swim at every sandy beach we saw. Typical cedar water, the top 12" was warm and the...

    Drought coming?

The lake near me is about 4 feet deep for half then drops off to about 15 feet. In a serious drought, the 4 foot section has completely dried up. Hasn't happened this year yet, so I've see worse. Hopefully we will begin to get some steady rainy days soon. Greg

    Pickin Blueberries

I used to pick with my kids at Peppers in Chatsworth when the father ran the farm, but I believe the son doesn't have pick your own. I've seen signs on RT 532 and 542 but don't remember the farm names. I make my own blueberry preserves, but have bought them at a local farm market the last few...

    Bitten by Tick?

My "night sweats" lasted about 2 weeks, but then started during the day. I remember feeling fine, putting a ceiling fan in our family room, turning it on and almost passing out under it. Mt temp was almost 105 and I was under a blanket when my wife found me. I took doxy for 4 months (at the time...

    Bitten by Tick?

No. When I had it the symptoms included night sweats, but during the day I felt ok. Then the symptoms became worse and more often. Also, the only side effect from Doxycycline was sun spots on my skin. They recommended I stay out of the sun. Yeah right, and miss the Pickerel season? Don't be...

THE BARRENS: NEW ALBUM RELEASE ANNOUCEMENT

Jeff, Tom and I certainly enjoy our time together on the trails and streams of the pines. I also know of an ancient Pickerel that I've seen but have not been able to catch. It looked huge. Also, my friend Ed (who I won't fish with anymore!) hooked me with a red devil spoon. Tom and I bust each...

THE BARRENS: NEW ALBUM RELEASE ANNOUCEMENT

The first 2 songs had me in the mellow zone. The 3rd made me jump out of my seat! Been listening ever since. Greg

    Pollen

Since I had pneumonia last winter (from the H1N1 flu), breathing is iffy in good weather sometimes. The oak stringy things I can't sweep up, I have to use the hose or else the sinuses plug right up. The pollen this year has been a royal pain, thank God for Benedryl (ha ha). My truck was white...

    Bitten by Tick?

Been there. Be safe and go see your doctor. If you feel any symptoms in the next 4 to 8 weeks, go again. I became symptomatic at around 8 weeks.

    Some Pie for the Teens

Ah, to be a kid in the pines again. Time sure do fly! My wife used to teach science. Their best trip was always to the pines with a ranger.

THE BARRENS: NEW ALBUM RELEASE ANNOUCEMENT

Yes, it's 2:30AM, can't sleep. Jeff, the Pick was about 3-1/2 pounds. I released it (usually do). It was just great to be on cedar water in the spring. I wanted to swim, but the water was just a bit too cold (and my wimpy brother Tom wouldn't let me). I also caught one that was about 6" long...

    Thousands of Red Admirals

I was wondering. I saw many butterflies the last day or 2. Also,we usually start seeing hummingbirds about now, or within a week or 2.

THE BARRENS: NEW ALBUM RELEASE ANNOUCEMENT

Jeff, "The Barrens" came in today's mail. I've been playing it all day. Very nice! On a different note, went fishing last week and caught the biggest Pick I've caught in a long time (at my secret hole). Good fishing, good music, life is good! Congrat's on a very enjoyable record. Greg
