Kayaking the Upper Great Egg Harbor River

Sounds like it could be paradise or the Baatan Death march! Good luck and enjoy it! I'm looking forward to hearing either way.

Kayaking the Upper Great Egg Harbor River

I don't know about that far up, but just below Pennypot (at the Old dam off Rt.322) I understand the dam is made from Teak wood from a shipwreck on the coast! Pennypot down should be in fair shape but take tools just in case if your going down that far. It has the tendency to throw out odd trees...

    Structure at White's Bogs

Was that mill perhaps primarily for the bogs in that area? Is it possible that was owned by the Cranberry farm for crates, and also structural lumber (ie. Cedar adjacent to the bogs) for commerce (ie. buildings towards Pemberton or for the Military res.)? I believe in WW1 Amatol had contracts...

Well, according to the gauge. I'm sure it had some water if you didn't mind picking your way. Not much flow, though.

    Constable Bridge Under Repair

I'm glad they have decided to fix it! It hasn't been right since the August storms of 1997. As to Pleasant Mills bridge, they haven't fixed that since before 1995 when it failed a state inspection! They had it blocked for a while, but they had to reopen it (with a warning posted) due to...

    Oswego

And fast - I guess the combination of narrow river and wide expanse of recieving area (bogs) make it suseptable to fast water increases (height and volume). http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nj/nwis/uv/?site_no=01410000&PARAmeter_cd=00065,00060

    Be careful out there.....

Forecasting 1" - 2" for this system. That should bring us up close to normal for the year. Yesterday's super low humidity (24 per cent) combined with the high spotty winds were responsible for the warning. I heard it on marine weather saturday morning (it surprised me as I thought last weeks...

Out and about in Cape May County

The Ospreys are on the nest on Lower Bank Road too! You can see them from the treeline along the road and won't spook them. (A couple hundred yards distance). The pole / nest is near the road. Sometimes you can see the hatchlings poke their heads out.

    Monday Exploring

Probably in the tradition of J Wharton (Robber Baron) or the man himself. He was a great one to become "resourceful" with ownership of land, when he was actively engaged in seeking to sell his (our) water to Philly. As I understand it, he was reported to have his legal counsellor draw up papers...

    Camping in the Pine Barrens

Godfreys Bridge may be a better choice, as it's easier to find and to get to. Hawkins Bridge or Bodine Field may or may not be accessable by conventional vehicle, depending on the conditions of the road. Also they tend to be used by larger groups. (Have you considered going during the week? Most...

Out and about in Cape May County

I believe there are perigrines at the Forsythe on the meadows in Galloway! Check in at the nature center and ask. Also, they have a log book for sightings updated daily. Budd has spoken about seeing them there, I just don't recall the time of year. I think there's a fee involved so if you know...

    Medford Lakes Canoe is MIA

Alarm, alarm! :siren: Our historic items are being taken by brigands unknown! Our historic reminder of the Great Flood (appoligies to Noah), has joined the ranks of items of interest ranging from socks in the dryer, to misplaced property monuments like a cornacopeal black hole in the tradition...
