A Snapping Turtle and a Spotted Turtle

No alligator snappers here. The only way might be if it was somebody's pet and released. Most likely it was just a monster common snapping turtle. Cool find though. I've seen a few snapping turtles this year but they all seem to give me the slip before i can properly wrangle. -Bob

    Spotted turtle information request.

just bear in mind that if you don't get the pictures soon, the spotted turtles will vanish. As soon as the warm weather hits, most spotteds are impossible to find. -Bob

    Snakes moving?

Pretty simple actually---the stink attracts bugs and makes the grass grow green--which attracts frogs and rodents. Good hunting grounds. the rule of thumb for finding snakes around the property is to look where the prey is. -Bob

    Snakes moving?

They're out. So far I've seen a pinesnake, a black racer, and a garter. You won't see them on the cooler days, but most have already emerged from hibernation. -Bob

    Anyone heard frog calls yet?

I went out tuesday night to one of my most reliable wood frog vernal pools . . . there was nothing . . . booo

    Anyone heard frog calls yet?

Awesome. Thanks, Guy. That means I'll be out there and hopefully have some good pics by early next week. I'll just have to check the rest of my wood frog spots until i find a vernal pool that isn't still frozen. Also thanks everybody for keeping an eye out. I'll continue to do the same...

Machette found in car during traffic stop

Historically I've encountered the same response from police . . . which is why I keep my machete zipped up in my equipment bag, in the trunk. I'd imagine if the cop has my trunk open and is actively searching through it---by that point something has already gone terribly wrong. -Bob

    Anyone heard frog calls yet?

I know I've only been keeping track for a few years now, but this winter is taking FOREVER to end. Usually by this time in March, there are four or five species of frogs breeding---but thus far I've neither seen nor heard any at all. Has anyone heard any calls or seen any frogs yet this...

    The "Cobra King"

I've recently come across information about a man named Rudy Komarek--the self-proclaimed "Cobra King". He apparantly makes his sickening living from the illegal traffic of venomous snakes in our immediate area--timber rattlesnakes specifically. He goes out--catches them, decimates the...

    What animal made these?

How many toes are there? I'm not sure but it looks like five. also doesn't look canine or feline. If i had to guess based on the picture alone I'd say It was a bear (because of sheer size and shape) . . . but pictures can be decieving. -Bob

    Snow Fleas

That's so weird! I went to the watergap on Friday and they littered the snow there, too. Some footprints were actually carpeted with the little things! I had no idea what they were, but they were tiny and moved like fleas so i'm gonna go with this. Thanks -Bob

    Birding at Lebanon

Thanks for the compliments, guys! Actually I've been to brigantine a few times, and it shouldn't be sold short. There's amazing stuff there . . . what i'm most interested in seeing is the peregrin falcons that are supposedly in that area . . . though i'd imagine they would be next to...

    Birding at Lebanon

I actually wound up not going to Lebanon. I went to Barnegat Lighthouse State Park. And man was it worth it . . . First we found this guy: Who was later determined to be a purple sandpiper. Next were these adorable Ruddy Turnstones: They posed for us just as much as all the...

    Birding at Lebanon

Since tomorrow is supposed to be a beautiful temperature . . . I'm planning to go out bird watching. I've been to a few of the normal spots recently, but was considering checking out lebanon tomorrow. I have a hunch that the system of cranberry bogs could be good for attracting winter...

Colliers Mills GPS charts Etrex question

Colliers has soo much potential. I've heard rumors about so many rare animals there, and its VERY close to where i live--i just haven't had a chance to really explore it. Whats really great about Colliers is their maintainance of fields. Its most likely to facilitate the hunting there (since...

New Battery Lasts Nearly Twice As Long

Sounds good. Only I still can't rationalize using anything but rechargables on my regular electronic devices. Granted . . . they're $20 for 4, but I can't even imagine how much more money I'd be spending if I bought a new set of alkalines every time I used up the charge on my digital camera...
