    Out And About Today

Guy did you notice the weird burned areas on edge of road near the memorial? Almost seems like they were doing backfire practice. Just little 50 foot wide sections. Someone did a number on that bridge on both sides of it. Must have happened Friday night.

    Poison Ivy and Indian Mills

Lots of Abrams in this area, or at least a lot of signs with the name on them! Bob, this is my neck of the woods, I never knew much of the area (Indian mills) growing up but we love the area. I consider it the pines but more of the agg side. Pretty sure that road is private. I’ve driven by...

    Red Flag Warning

We got about 1 inch of rain in May and typically get 5-6. It’s once again drying up ponds, canals, etc. Woods is quite quiet, grey tree frogs barely calling because it’s so cool at night.

    Bass River Fire

Bob, atv are a real problem there along with trucks. They come from the sanctuary and off the dirt jackson section. There are a lot of pbtf that breed along that cut and historically timber and pine snakes have crossed there. Every kid in sanctuary has a quad and rips thru the woods there. The...

    Bass River Fire

At some point the area from Jackson road dirt road, to Jackson road by atco raceway to Atsion will burn and will be a monster fire. It’s beyond thick back there and a real issue. There is tremendous amount of beautful wetlands there but there is plenty of thick woods as well.

    Bass River Fire

Winds are pushing it towards Jackson road though so should be ok.

    Bass River Fire

If this fire was on the other side of that cut, it could potentially burn all the way to Atco raceway and up to a Atsion Road but it’s pretty contained where it is because it’s not gonna jump that cut and it’s not gonna jump Jackson Road. I can see the smoke pretty good an hour ago from my...

Wet Forest - Formerly Known as Dry Forest

Bob, you can’t miss spadefoots, big cat eyes, play dead when you pick them up and ball up. They wait years for rains like that, breed in huge numbers then disappear like nothing happened. Even with all this rain the ponds near my house soaked it up and are not holding water.

Wet Forest - Formerly Known as Dry Forest

Drove around by my house and there was 100s of spadefoots out on roads and in ponds.

Wet Forest - Formerly Known as Dry Forest

Coming down heavy here. Would think another 1.5-2 inches more of rain. Finally hearing frogs calling and migrating to ponds now with some minimal water in them.

Wet Forest - Formerly Known as Dry Forest

Got 3 inches here, I agree we got a lot of rain overnight. This should do a good job of getting some wetlands filled up a bit. Still need 2-3 more of these.

Wet Forest - Formerly Known as Dry Forest

Lots of rain on the 10 day forecast, we will see if any of it actually materializes.

    Great Swamp Today

This to me is the most unique and special place in all the barrens. Pygmy plains are close second.
