These are photos of green frogs. National Geographic has already nastily rejected them all. You'll see why.
Anyway, I got close and personal with several green frogs this evening, and even had a run-in with a bullfrog. I came around a corner and must have startled the latter. Well, with all...
Alfie and I were examining some of the vernal waters near the Cape May County border this evening (we were actually in Cumberland County); several tiger salamander larvae were spotted. Here's a very so-so photo of one (center left) among many tadpoles.
Yikes. This is the first photo I've looked at from today's hike with Gloria along some overgrown bogs in the Friendship area. I hope the others measure up. Gloria's keen eye noticed this dragonfly just out of its exoskeleton at the outset of our trip. I'd just mentioned that I was wanting to try...
Magical Saturday evening in Belleplain State Forest. The frogs are out full force. Happily heard: Peepers, Chorus, Leopards, Fowler's Toads, Carpenters, and an ample supply of wonking Pine Barrens Tree Frogs. Sing, boys!
A few snaps:
A gloomy but magical Tuesday spent wandering Wharton. My personal highlight was listening to a chorus of eastern towhees and redwing blackbirds at the Beaver Pond on the Mullica. The two species of birds in symphony sound like close cousins. Gloria and I then spent much time near Skit Branch...
Yes! I have! This piece, "I'll Wonk if you Wonk", scaled the Billboard charts back in April 2007!

Nice recording, Tom! I hope to get out and do some serious listening starting this or tomorrow evening.
I’d fear Alfreda way before I’d be concerned about Alfie. Alfie is a teddy bear unless he is in some sort of pain. He can be taken by simply pouring a jar of ants down his pants. Or let loose a wasp on him. Alfreda, though, is fearless. I’ve seen her level a rabid moose with one rap of her...
Not everybody realizes that there are sensitivities at work here relating to other issues recently discussed on the forum. Guy’s recent post concerning ¼ mile spells this out.
Just the other day, I saw what must have been a large prescribed burn on Sandy Ridge Road. The burn result minimally...
Bad date for me ... but I'd love nothing more than to attend the reading.
I've bookmarked the following link to one of McPhee's readings/interviews (it concerns his geology series) and keep going back to it for more.

Thanks for the link! Interesting read for us frog-sound maniacs. :)
I heard a pond full of wood frogs near Sea Breeze a week or so ago. Hundreds of them. It reminded me of the racket carpenter frogs make when they gather for a mass croak. I've yet to muck my way out to the pond itself to...
Thanks for posting, Guy.
This tree frog is almost 50 years old! :) The photographer was assistant treasurer of the Audubon Society at the time.
It wasn't me who found the photo, but a friend of mine. Rich happens by the forum from time to time and thought it would be of interest to us...
A walk around Friendship (and nearby) with my wife. This was also a first pine-barrens hike for my dog. He did well. But he did refuse to cross a slightly submerged board adjacent to a bog. We assisted him. :)
Thx fer lookin.
Sorry. But if I don't do these all at once, when the day is still warm, they'd never get done.
I'd promised myself to not shoot a photo during my trip to Sea Breeze today. My intention was to sit down there in the solitude and read the final pages of a wonderful book. Next time I'll know...
Just about that time of year ... I'm tuning up the audio recording gear here and preparing for my solo all-night sit-around-and-record-sounds (or-lack-of-them) sessions in the pine barrens. Count me as further inspired now now that I've found a weird but fine-Fine-FINE (IMHO) youtube video of...
