When we traveled west and weren't staying in a NP, we camped in the local NF. Most NP's out west are surrounded by them, always have an open spot, unlike the NP's, and were never crowded with less regulations. There was a place in the Beartooth where you could camp in an old fire tower waaay...

BLM has virtually nothing available east of the Mississississississippi and of the ones they do have for the west, many are past their last valid date. I would be wary of the accuracy of private maps. Have you tried the states parks or fish & game web sites? Found this one, pretty useless...

I was lost once in Stokes SF during winter deer season with an ex hunting buddy. Started to snow, lots of fun was had. Came out on the road to Sunrise Mt, probably 6" on the ground, we had left from Kittle Field. Some guy took mercy on us and gave us a lift back. Never trust a hunting...

Way back when I hunted the Greenwood Quail management area, I carried a couple satellite maps of the area to hand out to the lost and forgetful. I went through quite a few of those maps :rolleyes:

Well, things change. There is a new guy in the states big seat that leans green. I expect we will be seeing a lot more changes down the trail :rolleyes:

Don't get confused with the natural area of North Brigantine and the term 'park'. The beaches of IBSP are one of the last examples of undeveloped barrier beaches on the East coast; the north and south natural areas. There are some sections of the north natural area that does not allow any...

The closures only affect beach driving and were implemented to prevent chick mortality. They are mandated by Federal law, not NJ. The early life cycle of these chicks have them staying close to the nest early on which is close to the dune line; parents feed them. As they grow they venture out...

A couple solutions for you. 1-Get a small pack for the gear you need. 2-If you absolutely need 30lbs of gear, get a gear cart(see pic), much easier on the back, it is similar to what some surf fishermen use that do not own beach capable vehicles. 3- go to just about any other east facing...

That is what the meeting is about. They had a cash cow with no expense in years past as they were selling the passes for the state owned North End. I can understand their frustration. They were getting $175 for a pass that will now be $50, and they sold a lot of them...
