    Rainy stretch aids blueberry crop

I will be checking the spot where I pick wild blueberries this afternoon. They should be ready real soon. I found it while horseback riding a few years ago. The bushes were tall enough to pick while mounted. I can get there in my truck. yes its easier to buy them, but its still an hour or two in...

    Beer (again)

:v:My favorite beer is the stuff a friend of mine makes, when he brings it around in a pitcher at some wee hour of the morning when I am playing my guitar or banjo at a music festival. He just shows up and hands it to me. Nothing better than that.

    Something caught on camera?

My vote it is a jet. In the first pass on the video, you can gear somebody uttering something as the object is two thirds of the way across the field of view. In subsequent replays, the utterance is deeper in pitch and longer, meaning the video has been slowed down slightly. The reason you can...

    Cedar Waxwing

You have been posting great shots with the new camera!!! I saw a lot of Waxwings at Friendship last year. I just wish I had my camera when My wife and I saw a Cuckoo in the pines a few years ago. Keep shooting.

    KKK in the pines?

I had a first sergeant who did not consider Virginia a southern state. New Jersey, hah. He was from Texas. While driving through Alabama a few months ago, I did not see as many Confederate battle flags as I thought I would, nor in any of the other states in the deep south. I don't think I have...

    KKK in the pines?

I read an old article reprint in one of the local papers, that the clan donated an American flag for one of the classrooms when one of the schools was built. It listed the organizations who donated them. I forget the date of the original article. I miss Brownie's. Spent more than a few nights in...

    WW I Ammo packing building?

I was at the Bethlehem plant two weeks ago. There is much more to see back there. There is a dirt road entrance to the park that goes down to the artesian well and boat ramp. There are more large remnants of buildings there. I will be going back within the next few weeks. I know I have only seen...

can anyone tell me where this photo is from?

Mts83, you are right that I was thinking of Babcock Creek. I was replying to the post before yours, when I said I didn't think it was that one. I don't recall the condition of the chimney there. Nor the smaller footings in front of it. I do recall seeing ceramics of some sort imbedded into the...

can anyone tell me where this photo is from?

I don't think it was that one. I Google Earthed the area, and the creek behind the fireplace I don't think went to Weymouth upstream. The location did not look right for that based on my recollections. If I still have the pictures, they are on disc someplace. Ilooked through the picture folders...

can anyone tell me where this photo is from?

I'm not sure, but it looks like the chimney at what I think was an old Girl Scout campsite in Mays Landing. It's been a few years since I my wife and I were there. I have pictures someplace, but god knows what hard drive they are on. If it is the same place, its not far from the old brick...

    Where was Davis Grove?

I agree with oji, this has truly been a great read. Reminds me of when they used to say "Tune in tomorrow for another episode of..." My thanks to all involved for an uplifting read, and kudos to Ben for creating a place where things like this can happen. It speaks volumes for the webmaster and...

    June in the Woods

Hey Bob, can you focus optically through the lens, or only through the lcd screen? Might help. Other than use the macro setting, I can't think of much else, other then perhaps a mini tripod, and a remote trigger, or delayed shutter setting so that you don't get any movement from presing the...

Red Oak Grove and Howardsville 5-26-08

Thanks for the info Ben. Now that I see the pictures, I do recall reading about them. Just forgot. Great site, I love it. I still need to get the rest of my Harrisville pics uploaded. That was what, three years ago that you had that outing?

Red Oak Grove and Howardsville 5-26-08

Please excuse my complete lack of knowledge about the grave stones and most of the history of the area, but could some of those large property markers be the source of the stories of graves in the area?

    F4 Jet Crash

I can see the black smudge in the sky, well before you could hear the sound of the twin GE engines. I was a crew chief in the late seventies on Phantoms. There may be some well faded scars on my back from scrapping against protrusions under the plane. I loved that plane.

    Brew your own beer?

I'm not an expert on making beer by any means, but the first batch I tried making was at a friends house. We had the sugar and water mix sitting on the stove in a pan waiting to add it to the batch. One of his roomates came down and started puttering around the kitchen. Come time to add the...

    Forked River Mountain Cleanup

I have a suspicion that there is something on my agenda for on or about that that date, but I'd like to make it. I missed the 4wd club cleanup this year to my dismay. Hope to make this one.

A good ol' fashioned music/muscians thread...

Well I have to chime in on this one, as my screen name is Banjo. I am getting better with it, but Earl Scruggs will never have to worry about me getting better than him. Have played guitar for far longer than the banjo. Occasionally I will get out a mandolin or fiddle. My fiddle playing does not...

    Corduroy road found, maybe.

Yup Scott I've done it once or twice, but how many times have you rebared after getting halfway or all the way back home? If it is in fact a buried courderoy road, how many others may have been buried over time?

    Corduroy road found, maybe.

Going back in to have one more beer. Seriously, it is the long thin steel bars placed inside concrete forms. You've seen it sometimes sticking out of concrete. It's what makes concrete "reinforced concrete". Makes it able to bear heavier loads.
