    First post

I saw a hole like that the other day and wondered the same thing. It was by a stream, maybe a sinkhole.

    Ticks?

Yeah me too, I stick to the wide fire roads and stay off the trails in the warm season. It's a shame because the narrow trails go to some real nice places but I can only use them in winter. There's no escaping the pine flies though. :(

    fire

I heard there was a fire in Howell along route 95 on the news. Suprising considering all the rain we've been getting lately.

    Google Maps

As I said before I dont like the changes to Google Earth. The summer images show less and seem like a lower resolution. It's now Microsoft Live Maps for me, I'd just wish they'd create a program like Google Earth.

    Ticks?

All I can say is hope we have a real winter next year, these warm winters stink.:bang:

    Ticks?

Repel Permethrin spray, I get it at Walmart.

    Ticks?

Is is time to start spraying the clothes? We've had quite a few warm days lately, so they must be back out. Because I've seen flies and yellowjackets already, walked into a swarm of gnats today, yuck. I have a feeling the warm, wet winter is gonna lead us into the bug season from hell. Stock up...

    Controlled burn?

I'm skeptical about firebreaks. In the 1995 Sunrise fires, the fire easily crossed Sunrise Highway which is at least 200 feet wide, the fire trucks were trapped for awhile. I do not like the Hay road plan at all. It is unneccesary cutting which may not even bring much benefit. Prescribed burns...

    survivorman

Totally agree, Bear's advice would get most of us killed. I think of M vs W as an extreme sport show. Now Survivorman OTOH is a real survival show. I have brought it up before, I'd love to see him survive in the pine barrens for a week. True, he may not be as far from a road, but perhaps a leg...

    Wind

Trees came down here also, mainly in the swamps. But in the upland areas it wasn't too bad, gotta hand it to pitch pine, it's one tough tree!:v:

Yeah, I used to get 5 trolls a day trying to join.

    Greetings! New to area

I hope you are wrong but I wouldn't be suprised. What does Oregon have against me and the pines?:(

This may have something to do with all the tropical rains

Yeah the Gulf Stream is killing us, once the wind goes S or SE it gets quite mucky. They often mention La Nina (the cooling of the Pacific waters) as a reason for the warm winters here, but I think what goes on offshore plays a greater role. We've had more thunderstorms this winter than during...

Anyone else get much sleep last night?

We got another "big blow" coming tonight and tomorrow, I made sure I stocked up on sleep last night, it wont come easy tonight. If anyone's going outside tomorrow, be careful! Hopefully the trails will be drier on Sunday, though I'll prob have my fair share of climbing over fallen trees. For...

    Greetings! New to area

I promise I have nothing to do with this! There is some weird stuff goin' on here this year. I think the JD has learned how to use the internet and is all messin' with us.:jd: That's why whenever I tried to start a forum I just couldn't deal with all the trolls. Even though I dont drink, I...

Anyone else get much sleep last night?

It sounded like a hurricane last night into early morning with the wind sounding like a freight train sometimes. I was lucky I didn't have a power outage but alot of people did. The woods should be interesting to say the least, looks like a lot of work for the trail cleanup crews. Any word on...

    Candles already!?

Okay maybe disturbing wasnt the right choice of words, annoying is more like it. But the gypsy moths can cause permanant damage in forests if severe outbreaks happen summer after summer.

    Candles already!?

It's disturbing because the ticks and chiggers are gonna be worse than ever come spring. Plus we've been having terrible defoliation due to gypsy moth caterpillars and other loopers.
