    A really big tree

German G and I went to Cook College at slightly different times, or maybe I just didn't notice him when I was there. :) We both had Dendrology and were taught by some very smart people. I took Dendrology in winter and my professor told me I would thank him for that some day because we didn't...

Wading River Raceway, A PBX Hike

Yes Bob, I had a tiny hole in my palm just below my little finger. It looked like a nail hole. It was there for years before the contracture kicked in.

Wading River Raceway, A PBX Hike

Yes it is Gabe. There is a 15'+/- wide gap blown through it. My guess is that there was a control structure at that point. My picture was taken looking along the top of the dike. Downstream is to the left.

Great photos Guy. Here are a few of mine. One of the interesting finds for me was a NOAA Radisonde. It appears to have been in the woods for a lot of years. Here is a NOAA fact sheet on them. Pretty cool. A very good day with good people.

Still Trying To Solve Issues With My Car One Year Later

Those sway arm bushings are toast and can account for all kinds of thumping noises. One thing I found is that while Moog may be the most popular in front end parts, their sway arm bushing life is short. I tried Advance Auto's house brand, Carquest, and they have lasted over 3 years and are still...

    Fall/Winter Stone Searching 2021/2022

Yes they will Al. I never tried it though. I wouldn't think there is much scent emanating from that setup with only the drain pipe as an outlet and no mechanism to fling it. Can't beat fresh goose or deer carcasses to attract canines, raptors and raccoons and other interesting scavengers.

Strange looking bait. Looks like sweet feed on the left and dry dog food on the right.

    Sharp's Mountain

I am fascinated with that name Rehoboam Braddock. I have never seen Rehoboam as a first name. Like many names, it is Biblical in nature. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rehoboam. I read a lot of old deeds in my work and I have never come across Rehoboam. Eliphalet is a biblical name too...

Things you find while driving around....

Well you got me there. :) However, I was always sensitive to other legal woods users back in the day because I have always been a hunter and would never go blasting through the woods a half hour before dark. I also would pull off and shut down when I encountered horses. I was 25 when I bought...

Things you find while driving around....

Many people think they can because NJ has and has had, for a very long time, a completely bogus registration procedure (requirement) that earns you the ability to do absolutely nothing on your ATV. Read this and just imagine all of the poor shi&heads out there that fell for it. They have...

Things you find while driving around....

I am seeing more and more UTV's in "my" State woods literally every week. Park Police Enforcement has become non-existent down here over the last three years. I had a hunt ruined during muzzleloader by a UTV carrying four kids and blasting rap music through what sounded like a PA system. I...

Learned Something Interesting Today (Tundra Swans and Cranberry Bogs)

I was at Millers off 206 looking for coyotes last week and the back bogs had a big flock of Canadas roosted along with a small flock of mallards. My truck spooked the Canadas in the dark but the mallards just swam further away from shore. They were still there 2 hours after daylight.

Thanks Jon. I have hundreds of pictures from that exact spot. It’s a ten minute walk from my front door and I’ve been going back there almost daily for the last 38 years. I’ll post a few more tomorrow.
