Same here. And as for the trees getting much taller, see my avatar. That's me in the Plains back in the early 70's, towering over the whole dwarf forest, like Paul Bunyan!

Great photos. I sure do miss that place. Frogs: I remember camping out by Bamber Lake one summer night - we slept in the car actually - 1970 I think - 44 years ago - the croaking of the frogs was so loud - I don't think you can hear it like that anyplace any more - the world amphibian...

Some people think that film is too new-fangled, and they are still making tintypes and daguerrotype photographs!

But #7 says buy strike anyplace matches. Those matches have not been sold in stores for many years. You can, however, still buy them online, like from amazon.

That man who murdered his daughter in law, or whoever she was, and then disappeared into Bear Mountain-Harriman State Park, in the autumn of 2012, they never found him either did they?

The lost town of Friendship, NJ. I remember the day I took the picture, the quiet country sounds of the farm animals. It was already more than half abandoned...

I sent you an email, Ben. EC - It looks like some sort of tank. I remember the livestock in Friendship, chickens and roosters and maybe sheep bleating or something. I remember the quiet country sound of the place.

I rescanned the slide. Not really any more detail on the blowups (available on the original page) because of the grain limitations in the film, but slightly more extension to the sides, especially the left side, showing the complete tank on top of the little shed, and a little more of that...

Beats me, but the town was already going to ruin and only sparsely inhabited. The white building looks abandoned. Weren't all the inhabitants ordered to all move out by the next year or so? Why? Because the state bought the land and was going to build an airport there, or the military...

Oh, I missed that. Is it the old Friendship post office? There's a big flag in front. You saw my photo of Friendship, right?

Just got it. The photos in the back aren't as great as I remembered them, the only ones of particular interest being on the last two pages showing Fred Brown and his house. Otherwise any number of PB photos on here are way better. I don't really need it, so if anyone wants it I'll send it you...

Time passes. The Pine Barrens came out in 1968, and the events that took place in it must have occurred a few years earlier, half a century ago. I just found a copy of McPhee's book on Ebay. I think it is the one we were talking about on here two and a half years ago, the one with photos...

Anyway I'm same as you, undecided what to choose in new computer, leaning towards the 7. Seems to me 8 is meant for tablets.
