Lyme Disease - Do You Have IT too?

I just had blood drawn last week before my sailing trip due to symptoms similar to what Ben is describing. I had quite a few tiny ticks on my trip to Union Clay a month ago... so better safe than sorry. Haven't heard back yet, though.

    Atsion To Boot Hill

Great stuff, Jerseyman. I've been wanting to check out the area around Parkdale, and now I have another reason.

    idiots at friendship

Oh man, we should set up a voluntary patrol regime and when we find the bastards, take plates, follow them, and call the rangers.

    My that's a large spider

Well, there is only so much you can say about a big spider, and I said most of it in the subject line ;).

There is something to be said for the natural rythms of our forebears: kick butt in spring and fall and pass the less friendly seasons either indoors or out.

    A Tuckerton Fix

We have a bard amongst us. I will resolve to visit Tuckerton, which I have never been to.

Great pics and an interesting outing, James. I will need to get back to the UCW area to view those graves, since I missed them last time. Bloody hot yesterday, and I decided to head up to Pahaquarry instead of the pines because I thought it might be a little cooler. Did one two mile trek...

    My that's a large spider

Maggots are an ancient and very effective treatment for just that reason, and believe it or not they are beginning to find uses in modern treatment settings again.

    Which GPS to buy?

Yeah, I don't disagree, and didn't do any competitive comparisons. I'm a pretty loyal Newegg customer, personally.

    Batsto Africa, a PBX Hike

I think there are a number of natural explanations for that sheen, and I've definitely seen iron do it as well. You can see this around the rusty hulls of ships, even when you know there is no oil on the water, and I always wondered what it was. Must be some characteristic of the iron oxide.

    Coyote puppies

We have them in the suburbs too, increasingly. I personally have no problem with controlling animals that have any proven inclination to attack people, but I know I am in the minority these days.

    Which GPS to buy?

Seem to be a good selection of reviews here, James. Not terribly positive, but for the right price I'd probably take a shot with them... http://www.resellerratings.com/store/ERWINCOMP

I got out of the woods about 6 hours ago...

Never seen one myself, either, and I have quite a few itchy bites right now. I'm never quite sure if they are chiggers, since the tick bites will itch too. Here's an interesting article in How Stuff Works... http://animals.howstuffworks.com/insects/chigger3.htm One of the points made is...

    16' Old Town Canoe

Both excellent tricks. Up in Canada I often see tourists paddling solo, using the rear seat, nose high in the air (where, naturally, it acts a lot like a sail).

    Batsto Africa, a PBX Hike

After bushwhacking at Union Clay and Red Oak Grove last week I can understand why, too. I'm still scratching.

Congrats, Jeff. Exposure is good. Get them to plug the CD in the credits.

Looks like you guys had a great time, and a more convivial gathering than the one pictured at the end I can't imagine. How far in did Jessica sink?

    My that's a large spider

I don't mind spiders, and the emotional reaction to that one was sheer fascination... on my part. My youngest daughter, who was the only one home when I spotted him, initially was rather freaked, but eventually agreed to sit behind the guy and lift the tupperware container on command so I could...

    My that's a large spider

Actually there are a number of members of that general family that don't live near water, but you're right that most do. We live on top of Schooley's Mountain in Northwestern Morris County. It isn't a dry area, by any means, and there can be standing water in my back yard after a heavy rain...

    Martha Furnace; advice requested

Quite a bit of the walls from the old factory. Other than that not much.
