Here I am at Hermit Lake Shelter in August 1979. Imagine seeking shelter in that open faced lean-to in -20 air with 130 mph wind gusts. Ouch.

I did have a little bit of a mop back then oji. Heat has no problem leaving my head now. :)

Monday morning at 04:54 showed 130 mph winds with -22 air temp. Wind chill -76. Painful. And we complain about wind chills in the single digits ? We are a bunch of girls. :)

I don't know why they are so shocked by the damage. The property is mapped by FEMA as being completely within the 100 year floodplain limits, the name of the homestead is "Swamp Fox" and the photo in the article shows that they live inside of an Atlantic white cedar swamp.

I went there over twenty years ago with a friend and it was a total dud. It is brown, not blue and looks like any other small pond in the pines.
