    Forest Fire at Atsion

I like the names people give to places to try and make them desirable sound places to settle. The Barrens are not real "fruitful" excepting blueberries and cranberries much like when the Vikings named Greenland which is nothing but an ice covered waste except for a small strip on the southern...

    Forest Fire at Atsion

Where I was I"m quite sure there was never a town there but I see that Fruitland is an old name for Atsion.I was west of 206 and more then a mile as the crow flies from the Ranger station. A poison ivy covered morass with surprisingly large trees for an area so close to an iron furnace.

Exploring Along The Wesickaman Creek Near Atsion

We didn't cross the main swamp,we crossed the western side and went as far as the middle ridge but themain swamp where the creek if you want to call it that runs through,we didn't cross that half. It's only about 600 ft from the stone on the swamps edge to the ridge but it's a mean 600 feet.I...

Exploring Along The Wesickaman Creek Near Atsion

Guy have you ever crossed Wesickaman Swamp west of the stone? It was bad,I"ve been in harder but the ivy was on almost every available handhold and hummock.I haven't got it so I must have been very careful.A couple of times I leaned on trunks only to look up and see I was on a hairy vine and I...

    Lost Trekking Pole

Me and a friend of mine were island hopping yesterday and on the way back across the swamp we found a trekking pole deep in the swamp nowhere near any trails.I thought someone on here may have been in there and lost it.If you can tell me the color and make of the pole and what it has printed...

Exploring Along The Wesickaman Creek Near Atsion

I forgot who made that reply.I thought Guy said it was gum.I was out there looking for a cedar snuggled up to a gum and I remember thinking that didn't look like gum bark. When i found the tree I said that is definitely not gum bark.I looked up and seen beech leaves which is much more common down...

I made it to the stone today Guy.The double tree is a Cedar and Beech, not Gum.I thought so by your pic but the leaves confirmed it when I was there today.

You know I didn't realize that was the same creek and that it crosses 206 and wraps around the Ranger Station.I was thinking the Wesickaman crossed the road bordering Atsion lake and ran in there.I see I am in error.

Wesickaman creek is west of 206. Are you speaking of the little stream that runs into MUllica between the Atsion church and the Ranger Station?

What is this sound? Frog? Bird?

Guy I have them in my yard. They seem to prefer oak forests though I have found them in pine trees. They are very cryptic and blend in with oak bark very well. They can be mistaken for a bird but birds excepting a very few kind shut up at dusk where these bad boys just get louder and more numerous.

Exploring Along The Wesickaman Creek Near Atsion

Awesome! Looks like a very hard stone.Probably too hard for the surveyor to cut deep with whatever He had.Was this a stone we were originally looking for out there. All I remember is a dangerous trek across a frozen section of swamp that had ice too thick to stomp through but too thin to bear my...

    Forest Fire at Atsion

by that photo looks like quaker bridge road would pass right through it.they should've waited for the fire ,it would have taken those beetles out instead of the carnage the state reeked.Still haven't figured out how dropping trees in piles with the bark still on em gets rid of beetles.
