I used to do crap like that for fun.I know longer thing crap like that is funny anymore.I'll do it to get to a nice island or maybe a nice spung or vernal pond but if I can avoid it I do. I believe most areas like that were purposefully planted with briar to hide stones.

Jburd A machete in country like this will just get you hurt.Every time you pull back to take a swing you will yank more briars down on your head,if it's not razor sharp you will just yank the briars around maiming yourself.Machetes are good for reeds and bamboo but briars are really tough and I...

Bob if you want cedar swamp in makepeace you either have to go west of weymouth-elwood road or go around the eastern headwaters of makepeace lake.I see your route deviated from the original route. You seemed to not venture as far eastward on the return leg as you planned. If you had stayed in the...

I really hope the turtle makes it.every fire I've ever walked in the backfire of I have found cooked box turtles.I believe the snakes make it underground for the most part but if a turtle is not near or in a swamp he is pretty much cooked.

he must have realized raised pine needle humps meant shroom! I had no idea though of course it now makes sense.Shrooms can raise a clump of pine needles six inches into the air virtually overnight so maybe they just investigate clumps but I know he could not see through that mess of pine needles.

I once observed a box turtle walk over to a clump of pine needles on the ground and tilt it's head sideways in the way they do before chowing down and then ram it's head into the clump and come out with a mouth full of white stuff.I walked over and lifted up the needles to find an Amanita...

Did you leave him there in that condition? There are reptile rehabs that would take him and keep him for life,of course you would probably be fined for removing and harassing wildlife if you did. They could put him down if he was too bad to live. Al

Stuffed in a vacuum and bombarded by electrons, a tick waves hello

I have sat on the ground and watched ticks crawling toward me and have then got up and moved to the other side of them only to see them turn around and head for my new location.I have seen them on brush picking their legs up and waving them back and forth as if sniffing me out.The must also love...

    Batsto Flood Plain

I have paddled skit from carranza rd down to the Batsto and I have put in at the highest sand road crossing of the batsto south of carranza but was led to believe any higher was not canoeable. After walking it I'd say it is canoeable with high water as long as lift overs don't get you down.
