    Tucker's Isle

Bald eagles often arrive at the nest in mid january and I don't doubt there is an eagle nest or two on the island but by summers end the immatures are ready to fend for themselves so by say september there should be nothing going on out there a few hikers would hurt, then again it's all about...

Now i like birds and would be willing to give the island to them spring and summer but what on earth are we disturbing if we go out there in fall and winter?I like the marsh better then anyway,I grew up in dividing creek and vicinity and the greenheads have taken enough of me over the...

    Tucker's Isle

Jeff I am not sure about the legality of landing on it.I did see no tresspassing signs along the southern shore of the island and the signs stated it was because of seabird nesting though there were no dates posted that you could tresspass legally.Perhaps they would not say anything if you...

    Tucker's Isle

actually now that I have plotted the actual island from 1920 onto modern day aerials I see the island really did not disappear after all,at least not the northern end.The island moved westward as barrier island in times of rising sea levels are won't to do and the inlet closed between tuckers...

The Lure of the Land - A photographic journey through the pine barrens, New Jersey’s

Bach That second pic is eight minutes drive from my house.I recognized it immediately. There is a real nice blue hole just south of there alongside bear swamp that is not natural trust land.to get there from that crossing you have to cross posted land but if you move further west down the tracks...

    Tucker's Isle

yes I'm aware inlets and points change quite rapidly but this was a sizeable island totally wiped out. Then again there is a 20 year gap in the photos.I still can't get over they actually caught the lighthouse falling over. Al

    Tucker's Isle

I just aerialed the island and I never realized it was that extensive. It appears to have been partially wooded and had dwellings and roads on it in mid island and the southern end.The island appears to extend northward from 1920 to 33 and then wham,in 56 it is gone!.There are shoals in that area...

    Tucker's Isle

didn't that island disappear for awhile only to resurface recently?I've never been on it but have canoed out to little beach island twice. The only supposedly permanent island on the jersey coast without road access. It's loaded down with Rhus Radicans but does have a nice dune forest in one area. Watering Place Pond

it was probably a lot more inaccessible back then.Shame they made a highway past it and a bombing ranbge next to it.In the 1916 photo it almost could pass for a muskeg bog out on the tundra. There be a spring in those tall pine upostream from the pond.I tried to locate the exact spot but it is...

    Watering Place Pond

In harshbergers book "vegetation of the new jersey pine barrens" There is a place mentioned with picture shown on page 143 known as "Watering Place Pond".It is in the lower or east plains and was supposedly a tarn well known to hunters. The only place that I can think of this could be is...
