    Green snake

if your really scared of getting bit then I'd stick to ringnecks, brown snakes, green snakes and worm snakes.these snakes are too small generally to bite and even if they try they can't break the skin.some snakes that will sometimes bite at first but quickly calm down are garters,black...

    what kind of frog?

i have seen peepers that appear orange though the black x on the back is a dead give away that it is a peeper.as far as wood frogs in the barrens i have found them in millville in a cedar swamp adjacent to almost totally fresh tidal water with hardcore barrens immediately at swamp edge.Now...

    what kind of frog?

the frog in the pic is a wood frog.i have found them in cedar swamps in the barrens so they do live in the barrens.Bill is right on,they do sound a lot like leopards.their known to lay eggs far from permanent water sources in the most ephemeral of mud puddles and stump puddles.Guy is also...

Searching For The J Roger Brick Stone

I don't believe it was stupid to go through that because it was a stone but possibly because it really does appear to be easier to get there from the south now that i have really birds eyed it.Now if the stone was in the middle of the swamp you do what you have to do but since it was on the...

To Find A Yellow Crested Orchid

thats what i meant by fun in the sun:-) i did have no idea they mated this late.i assumed it was earlier like most snakes. Then again I"m not taking into account they have live young so theirs no delayed egg hatching period so they can get the whole birthing process over faster.makes sense...

To Find A Yellow Crested Orchid

Bob,, it's a little late for mating season but not too late. The way the one snake is following the other i bet anything the one in back is a male and he was scent tracking the female for a little fun in the sun. Might be some baby rattlers out there come late september.A lot of times late...

I like small streams, not big enough to swim in but maybe enough to sit in when the heat cranks up.The barrens is no place to be far from water when the heat gets above 85 unless your in the plains and theirs a stiff breeze:-) Al
