    Exploring Wharton Today

There is a nice loop there that comes back around to the road to Apple Pie Hill. It is one of the areas i hike with Jack often. If you continued past the pillers, did you notice the pit on the right? I found some old garbage in it but not much else. Seemed like a borrow pit, but for what? I...

    Wharton Forest fire 4/6/13

I spoke with a njFFS warden on Thursday. He said the fire was still burning but totally contained. They were going to let it burn out. He described it as being on Wilkin's ridge. Jeff

    Howardsville Run

that is an interesting spot. I've canoed all over that reservoir and it has some very interesting life in it. Turtles galore for one thing. The water is also very very clear which is uncharacteristic, probably due to an abundance of clay. Jeff

    Forgotten Towns

Nice find, Bob. I wonder if the pines as depicted in those photographs is the result of fire for clear cutting (especially the one in Pasadena).

    NJ Camping

i just booked a cabin recently at pakim pond and did the online register thing. the $9.25 didn't bother me too much since it was a cabin rental but i didn't realize they were applying that to all camping reservations. It used to be you could reserve/pay in person. I hope that is still a...

    Hit and Run

Me too....well, unless it's an '88 bronco and I'm 5 miles from pavement. Seriously Ben, that sucks. Hopefully it can be repaired at a reasonable cost. Jeff

    Speed Bump

route 532 from 563 to route 72 is nice and smooth now. I recall that there was a very tragic fatality not too long ago in town that involved a child and a speeding car. It may be a little annoying but nobody has any business going over 25 MPH in that little stretch anyway. I don't know...

    pickerel fishing in south jersey

I have been meaning to post this article for sometime. It is an extremely interesting read even if you aren't into pickerel fishing. It is from 1892. I thought it might make for a good front page article but i don't know if permission is needed in that instance. this is a link to a pdf...

    'Hawkin Swamp, a PBX Hike.

As a PBX member for nine years, this is the first 10 I gave a hike (although, I probably should have rated some others higher). Amazing maritime forest and history galore. And to find a mill wheel in the middle of a swamp was rare beyond any expectation. houses built in swamps...

    A Chance Encounter

I met his wife back in september and she had mentioned that they were considering moving to Maine where they had some property. She was saying that there wasn't much work at the sawmill. It is good to know they plan on using the mill again. She referred to her husband as Spike. I saw both of...
