    Bass River Bigfoot

I do not have the book but I remember the picture, first thing I thought of. The other picture ot The "maine monster" looks like a cross between a chow and a coyote. I think the angle has a lot to do with the strangeness of the photo that is posted above.

The Tracker from Tom Brown Jr.

Jewel weed seems to keep most things from biting...insect wise anyways. I have spent a winter night in a debris hut and slept very well. I have also made a fire with a bow drill. In fact when I was in practice I could get a fire going within a half hour using just a knife. It is good to have...

He moved to Florida. I think his field guides are very good,"Tom Browns field guide to nature observation and tracking" will change the way you see nature if you practice the techniques. His guide to edible and medicinal plants is great also, I have tried some of the herbal remedies with good...

    Bass River Bigfoot

the jersey devil is a Sasquatch, all the winged long necked creature stuff is from city people seeing herons and cranes.I was canoing on the rappahannock river this weekend and heard a couple of great blue herons get into some kind of fight,I had no idea those things could make a racket like that.

    First Aid Kits

You don't need all that first aid junk...unless you are going to get sick or injured, but who ever plans to do that. My summer backpack with 4 days worth of food weighs 20 pounds and that includes a 10 ounce first aid kit. Have you ever walked 12 miles with a sever case of diarrhea? How about a...

Hiking the Batona in a couple weeks. Water Question.

I use my katadin hiker water filter in the pines and have never had a problem. The filter tends to clog pretty fast as the water has a lot of sediment, but it is fast and convenient.

    Upper Batsto

I wish I had paid attention to the water levels, but now that you mention it I do remember alot of brush right after Hampton furnace. I only had to get out of the canoe once on the whole trip and that was south of Q.B.Most of the obstacles I hit were logs just under the surface and sand bars. You...
