    Finding an Old Book

Hahaha. How intriguingly vague. I assume someone either used OCR to scan the book into text, or maybe just typed it out by hand into a document. Still hoping for a physical copy somewhere out there, personally. I submitted a request to a local independent bookstore with a large NJ collection...

    Where is this?

Yep, that's more or less spot on. Here are some other photos of the Belco power plant ruins in the surrounding area. Worth checking out, for anyone who hasn't been. The boardwalk is fantastic and well-maintained; really makes a great walk through the ruins.

    Finding an Old Book

Interesting, where did you find a digital copy? The Open Library (Archive.org) has a digital copy of the 1955 book mentioned above, but not Sign Posts.

    Bingo!

    Where is this?

A certain spring. I think this is probably very easy. I did not drink the water, but I would be interested in taking a sample sometime and testing it, out of curiosity.

    Finding an Old Book

Fascinating! That's something to treasure. It does indeed look like you have Robert Blanchard's copy, and with a message and signature from the author, that's really something special. Thank you for posting the article snippets as well. I love the history and context.

    Finding an Old Book

So, I've been building a small collection of Pinelands and other Jersey-related books. In the process I've been fortunate enough to find and buy several rare/out-of-print works, but there's one book I'm looking for right now which I can find no copies of for sale anywhere. The book is Sign...

Darkness on the edge of town

Your work is inspirational, I really mean that. The mastery of lighting in particular, just awesome. I have a lot to learn from you.

    Sharp's Mountain

Sharp is one of those family names in Medford that dates back to at least the 1770s, along with Braddock, Haines, Stratton, Evans, and Stokes (among others) - at least from what I understand of the history. I'm not a professional historian or anything like that. The families are extensively...

Cold weather is returning this weekend

    Hopefully it kills some ticks.

    Glass Insulators

There's a Facebook group here with quite a few vintage pictures from the camp - maybe you're already aware of this or are a part of it: https://www.facebook.com/groups/125544006551/ This helps confirm a lot of the things I found via aerial imagery. The bridge to Fries Mill is clearly visible in...

    Glass Insulators

No rush at all. If you're ever free on a weekend maybe put something in the get-togethers and trips forum and I'd love to join.

    Glass Insulators

That would be amazing, I know we are complete strangers but I'd genuinely be interested in doing that sometime, if you wanted to meet. It would be really cool to get a group together and coordinate if others here are interested in that sort of thing.

    Glass Insulators

It appears to have been a beach; I am assuming this used to be part of Camp Hollybrook. Have a look at 1977 Tidelands or 1970 Wetlands maps, both have excellent detail in this location and clearly show the location and context of many buildings and structures nearby. Here is a dock that was...

    Piney Bridges

Hopefully not. That is inside the FPP on the Red trail which isn't even supposed to be open to bicycles, only foot traffic. I'm not sure how strict those rules are; people probably bring mountain bikes back there anyway. But I definitely didn't see any signs of damage from motorcycles recently.

    Piney Bridges

Similar to the motorcycle "bridge" but this is just for walking. Barely a bridge at all.

    Glass Insulators

Maybe this is a little tangential for this thread, and I think I already know the answer, but I might as well ask anyway since I have your attention, and it is your username, after all :) Do you happen to know if there is anything left of nearby Manumuskin Station...

    Glass Insulators

I would really love to see photos of the site from back then, if you have any, or know of where any may be found. Such a shame that someone burned the last standing building in the 90s (or so I have read).
