Get Together: Nov 29, 2008 - Deep Hollow, Mary Ann Forge, and Beck's Canal

People should feel free to bring kids, but just be mindful that we'll be around ruins, so keep an eye on them so they don't fall or get hurt.

    Anyone kno wthis book?

Henry Bisbee wrote "Place Names of Burlington County" and the "Signposts" books as well. I just looked on AbeBooks and didn't see the Martha book, so yeah, I'd say it's a rare book. You should thank your Dad. That's one book I wouldn't mind in my collection.

Wanted: Late 70s/Early 80s Japanese Car

I have a friend who works for a company in CA that builds Sandrails. Supposedly they use Acura engines!

Get Together: Nov 29, 2008 - Deep Hollow, Mary Ann Forge, and Beck's Canal

Hiking the canal should take ~20 min. The rest of the time we'll be poking around Deep Hollow and Mary Ann Forge. I'll try to get some map links up later tonight. We'll be in the general area of Mt. Misery Rd., on the North side of Rt. 70.

Get Together: Nov 29, 2008 - Deep Hollow, Mary Ann Forge, and Beck's Canal

Folks, It's been quite a long time since I've organized a site-wide get-together. We have a lot of new members, and with optimal exploring weather around us it seems like a perfect opportunity to meet and do some exploring. We'll meet at the Ranger Station at Brendan Byrne State Forest at...

New Jersey State Program Helps OHV’ers Gain Access to Land

Trucks and Jeeps are still allowed on State Land. I'd rather have any space available made to those who want to ride quads and dirt bikes. (In my opinion.) I am happy that quads and dirt bikes are out of the pines because I used to live in constant fear of them whipping around a blind corner...

    Spikes in the ground (lacey)

I'm not going to take this thread down. I want people to know what's going on in the woods around them. And, if the person who did this reads the site, I want them to know how much of a low-life scumbag they are.

Wanted: Late 70s/Early 80s Japanese Car

I've owned three VW's. A 1990 Corrado G60, a 1993 Corrado SLC, and a 2001 Jetta GLX. I have a soft spot in my heart for German cars. The 1993 Corrado SLC was the best car I've ever owned.

Wanted: Late 70s/Early 80s Japanese Car

Beetles command some good money for ones in marginally decent shape. I think I am putting off my search for a beater until next year. I need to pay down some of my credit card before I go off and buy another car.

New Jersey State Program Helps OHV’ers Gain Access to Land

Also, a word about insurance if you think I'm making that up. A few years ago I wanted an "official" site get-together at Harrisville. According to the state to plan something like that on State Land I had to get a $1M insurance rider to hold the state harmless if someone got hurt. That was for...

New Jersey State Program Helps OHV’ers Gain Access to Land

Well, the problem is that it was legal to ride a properly registered and insured ORV on State Land. (It has always been illegal to ride an unregistered and uninsured one on State Land.) In 2003 the State came out with the ORV policy that banned ORV use from State Land, doled out $1000 fines...

New Jersey State Program Helps OHV’ers Gain Access to Land

Good luck. I tried that with the PPA on this site and it went nowhere. Neither side is going to budge an inch. Both sides have a sense of entitlement and superiority. The environmental groups are much better funded and have the ears of lawmakers. It's an uphill battle. There's never any...

New Jersey State Program Helps OHV’ers Gain Access to Land

To follow on Bobbleton's comment, you can buy a gun and go to plenty of places in NJ where you are allowed to go shoot. In fact, when you pay for a hunting license, a portion of that money goes to pay for the upkeep of WMA's and shooting ranges. When pay to license your vehicle and ORV a...

    Chatsworth North....A PBX Hike

Mario Ruspoli, who built the Villa and the Club in Chatsworth, seems to have been involved with cranberry production after the Club burnt. He went back to Europe, but still owned the land and either had someone local build and manage the bogs or leased the land to a grower who built them. I...

How do I get to Hawkins Bridge from Speedwell?

Probably from Wading Pines, but the road from Friendship is wide enough that you could drive a Suburban down and not even come close to hitting the sides. It's a pretty major road through the pines. To give you an idea, here's my old Mercury at Hawkins Bridge, looking up towards Friendship.

New Jersey State Program Helps OHV’ers Gain Access to Land

Blame Fred Akers. He's the guy that lives right by there. I once tried to have a rational conversation about the subject with him. He was absolutely, rabidly, against any ORV use anywhere. The guy was really nasty with me for no reason except that I feel that he probably gets off by being...
