Lot of field crickets here as well.Also I have a loud two spotted tree cricket across the street and tinkling ground crickets in the back yard and pine tree crickets in the tree tops

I have never seen baby rattlesnakes in person so very well could be.Baby kings and milks and water snakes and garters are very colorful right out of the eggs.Maybe it's a crytpo thing.Even adult rattlers are not really colorful.((% of the population would like nothing better then to kill one so...

Most baby snakes are very brightly colored when born.I wonder why these guys are so ashy?

If it is on a stump it looks like a gnarled up Oyster but I would need to see the underside to know for sure.Oysters are quite edible but as I said I cannot ID this from the pic,need to see it's belly.

I am thinking your saying post # 1488 is at the outlet of the big bog on the Batona trail between 563 and 679. I have walked the trail through there many times and have never noticed this wall.
