    clarks landing graves,gloucester furnace etc.

As far as Amotol is concerned, you must have missed the NJ Fish and Wildlife Hammonton Creek WMA sign on Moss Mill. Most of the track is part of the HC WMA and not privately owned. I hunted there the first year the state acquired Amotol. Remnants of the track are still visible and I remember a...

    Pines Clean-Up

I coined the phrase in a post in September where I was explaining that the State Forest Fire Service had royally f'd up a long stretch of road down here. I stated that the "4x4 kids" have found it and the trenching and destruction of a formerly passable road was taking place. The 4x4 kids are...

What kind of dragonflies are these?

Brings back one of the nearly useless tidbits of information that I learned in entomolgy at Rutgers circa 1979. Dragonflies are in the family Isoptera. This means wings of equal length. Iso meaning equal and ptera, Latin for wing. (ie. pteradactyl ) Regular flies are in the diptera family...

Wharton Cleanup 2006: What a Day!

Bob, That is a great assessment of Rob's character. I have known Rob about 15 years and count him as one of my best friends. He is the guy who is always there to help and will give you every thing he has to make the job easier. At Square Circle Sportsmen, a 700+/- member club of which Rob...

Wharton Cleanup 2006: What a Day!

Beautiful day in the pines and the woods is saying thank you! (2) 30 yard dumpsters are full and a hundred or so tires are out of the woods I got to meet PBX Bob and what an admirable man he is. He worked his butt off with his truck in an area of the pines he really doesn't frequent. He...

    What is this?

Steve The hook shank is tapered and the hook opening is circular like it might have been a slip hook for chain. The hook opening is not a grab hook for grabbing a link. The mallet head is what has me baffled. I am googling all kinds of hook items with no luck yet. Scott

    What is this?

While out along Albertson's Branch tonight just before dark I came across a heavy, weathered cast iron hook lying in the edge of a dike road. I am going to try and link the photo here: http://forums.njpinebarrens.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pos=0 If that doesn't work, try...

    Wharton Wheelin'

How about some homemade wine instead Bob? The juice is done working now and will be ready in about 3 more weeks. It makes tree hugging more tolerable. I conversed with you briefly on here last year about getting up to the FRM's. Its an area I know nothing about. If the clay pits off...

    Wharton Wheelin'

You do not need 4 WD if you know some of the hard packed roads and avoid some of the slop holes. Largo from this site does the cleanup with a 2WD S-10. Roads like Quaker Bridge Road, Hampton Furnace Road, Sandy Causeway off of Chew Road, are all navigable with 2WD. If you hook up with a...

    Wharton Wheelin'

Well I guess I will continue with the hi-jack of this thread. I was very disappointed last year with the lack of support of the cleanup from members of this board. One day a year can be easily set as a priority. I have a special bias towards Wharton because I live here. I would venture to say...

    Wharton Wheelin'

There is no wheelin' to be done west of 206 within Wharton. Seriously, take a close look at the 7.5 minute Atsion and Hammonton Quads. Pay no attention to your software.

    Country Living Fair

Ran into Largo at around 1:30. The weather was absolutely perfect. I noticed there were a few more vendors this year and more antique vehicles. I go to a few rural Pennsylvania county fairs each year and the Batsto event is a nice substitute close to home.

    Country Living Fair

Most of the hit and miss engies are hooked up to something. Some are pumping water, some shelling corn and one of the larger steam engines is shaving cedar shakes. I cancelled my fishing trip for today so I will be at Batsto. Probably be there by 1:00 p.m.

    Pine Barrens Jamboree 10-14-06

I don't think I will be making the Batsto deal. My younger boy is coming home from college for the weekend and wants to give the stripers a shot on Sunday in Cape May while my boat is still in the water. Its still early for stripers but its worth a try. I may try the Jamboree on Saturday.

    Hunting Seasons Begin This Weekend

In most cases and this is my opinion, if a hunter is bothered by hikers or other non hunters during the hunt, then he may need to hunt deeper. I have a couple of ace in the hole kind of spots that are a close to populated areas in the state woods and I am occassionally screwed over by some dog...
