    Carranza

Actually, I just realized, near the bottom of the article you linked, there is a picture of Carranza's tomb (not the memorial, the tomb in Mexico City) - it looks like there is an error on it. Full resolution photo here Thelmadatter, CC BY-SA 3.0, via Wikimedia Commons It says MURIO EN MOUNT...

    Carranza

I had read the background on Emilio Carranza himself many times, but I did not realize until recently the significant place of the Carranza family in Mexican history - namely Venustiano Carranza, Emilio's great uncle. Venustiano was Governor of Coahuila and later the 44th President of Mexico...

    Summer Flora

A few more, all pretty common sights. Prickly pear, of course: Some three-way sedge, this is all over the place: Rose pogonia, when they were just popping: ...and a bit further along, with asphodel: Wax myrtle/bayberry: Pokeweed. Correct me if I got anything wrong...

    Summer Flora

Ah, you are right - I had confused golden crest and golden club. Thank you for the identifications!

    Summer Flora

To close out the summer season, some discoveries from the previous few months. Bog asphodel - thanks to forum members here who helped me find a population of it. Golden-crest, or neverwet as I think it's colorfully described in John McPhee's book. Carnivorous things... Some other...

    Aerohaven

Okay, you got me - I don't go back that far!

    Aerohaven

Ah, Aerohaven. This one I'm quite familiar with; I've been going back there for a long time. You can find some more info and a lot of historic aerial photos here - and I'm sure also on Boydsmaps. The southern end, where the aircraft hangars used to be, is, or was, a Superfund site. Apparently...

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

Thanks for the plain links. The email I got directly from Parks & Forestry contained obfuscated links on the domain "lnks.gd" which was being automatically blocked by my DNS sinkhole.

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

"Pollute" from the state's perspective - but yes, you're right of course.

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

We should just absolutely swamp the "interactive mapping tool" mentioned in the press release. Collectively mark every single road and site as important. Pollute the dataset.

    Winslow Area

It appears to be this, based on some quick searching: https://msp.world/winslow-farm-conservancy-hammonton-nj-usa/# More info: https://hankmcneil.wordpress.com/winslow-farms-conservancy-hank-mcneil-philadelphia-henry-mcneil/ Pretty interesting. I'm not sure if this is open to the public or not.

    RAIN?

I think I won't really believe we are out of a drought until I see for myself a cedar swamp flooded with water, or a creek at about the usual height. Haven't seen that yet.

    Morning Fog

Not really "fog" but there was some nice mist over the Mullica this morning. Water level still seems low, even with the recent rain.

    Finding an Old Book

I do appreciate the offer, thank you. Unfortunately it is not the same book. It's the author's earlier attempt at the same material. I mention it in the first post in this thread, and Bob also posted a picture of the title page. Sign Posts, from 1971, is much more complete and I believe also...

    Finding an Old Book

Just as an update - I think I've now spoken to almost all relevant bookstores and book dealers in the entire state (and a few in Philly) but nobody has a copy of this book or a lead on where to find it. Many said they had seen it a few years ago but not since then. I'm not giving up! Will keep...

New iPhone may also be a satellite communicator

Garmin (GRMN) ended the day up almost 3 points. I'm not sure I understand the market.

New iPhone may also be a satellite communicator

Actually, maybe I am wrong - a report from Bloomberg last year cited people "familiar with the matter" as saying that it was not going to be a deal with Iridium, but rather Globalstar. Of course, things could have changed since then as well. I bought a family member an inReach Mini a few years...

New iPhone may also be a satellite communicator

I was looking through the footnotes to see if they mention which satellite network they use to provide coverage but they don't seem to specify. There is this quote: That would seem to rule out geosynchronous networks like Inmarsat and imply that they are using a low earth orbit network - the...

    Sound In The Burn Area

That's interesting, I have not heard that before. I actually just posted some photos from the burn area over in the photography forum. I was struck by how quiet it was out there. I don't remember hearing any clicking noises like that.
