    Beaver nation

Sorry Scott, was out all day. Yes, that is 1,130 linear feet, or as you say, 376 yards.

It says so right on the topographical map that it is.

    Loss of Roberts Pond

From the Pinebarrens tribune article: "Bitzberger also inquired about the Public Works employees salaries. “We are paying one $9 an hour,” Buzby-Cope said. “Two get $15 an hour. There are three of them down there.” Dawson, deeply dissatisfied with the discussion, asked if there was going to be...

Tick Ecology in NJ Pine Barrens?

Mark, not being an entomologist, I can only guess what's going on with ticks. My sense is that the adults are no more numerous than they were before, but I don't remember so many in the nymph stage so late in the year. In about 1995(?) I was running a fire trail in Bamber and got a load of...

Tick Ecology in NJ Pine Barrens?

Mark, my only thought is that coyotes were not in the pines until 2003(?) or so, and yet I did not hear of any problems caused by their absence.

Tick Ecology in NJ Pine Barrens?

What niche are you speaking of? Maybe I should clarify my question, as niche has more than one meaning. Are you saying that coyote are somehow beneficial to the pinelands ecology in some way?

    Egg Harbor Township Nature Reserve

Intriguing. Looks like they did the proper thing in mine restoration. Except I would have removed the pipes. Makes it look unsightly.

    Miller's Bog Road Crossing

We should all get along with the beaver, after all, they were here first. :D

    Egg Harbor Township Nature Reserve

That is a restored sand mine? The stones look like sand stone. I would think bog iron would be a darker color. But, I'm no geologist, just a guy who likes to take a guess at it.

Interesting ebay auction: 80s Mayo's Halfway House Menu

Living in Presidential Lakes, I ate there maybe 6 times a year in the late 60's early 70's, more in some years. They used to have a chocolate shop next door (who remembers that besides me?). I loved to go there after the burger and get chocolate covered pretzels.

Unusual Memorial to a Young Man in the Pines

Edit: Guy just sent me an email that I had received from his father (and subsequently forwarded to all in PBX at the time), explaining why Jim could not come on the PBX trip. In that email was a photo that proves the one in Guy's post definitely is Jim, but younger. Rest in peace Jim.

Unusual Memorial to a Young Man in the Pines

Well, those photos are not very good, and I have no way of knowing how old he was in them. They simply do not look like the Jim I knew from 9 years ago. I remember Jim with dirty blond hair. Teegate's photo below looks more like him, but even that one is not a frontal view. He and I hit it off...

Unusual Memorial to a Young Man in the Pines

Oh my God, I feel bad about this. I knew him pretty well. He was in Russ's Plant Class for a couple years. I really liked him, and asked him to come on a PBX outing. When he passed, we in the class were all very upset. I did not recognize the photo. I'm going to reach out to Russ, just to...

I have a microscope and will capture some this season. If you are correct, I'll tip my hat to you. If not, give me a tip of your hat.

    Spring Flies

Oh, you mean my photos? Yes, I can accept that. But I can't accept that chiggers are not in NJ.

    Spring Flies

What? I know we often erroneously say our tick larvae bites were caused by chiggers, but you don't mean that we don't have chiggers too, right? Because we do, or I've been flim-flammed for 40 years.
