Thanks Ted, good info. Yes, that would be a good field trip. By the way, did you ever see all the mounds just east of Whiting in the 1930 aerials? Check it out. That man and/or his friends were busy!

Heh, now that you mention it, those small holes are cleanouts, right? :D

I think Ed was referring to the big brown house before you get to the school. This must be the foundation, but it seems small unless only a portion was a basement.

    Where is this?

I see he has a wine skin too for water...but he is inviting chiggers and ticks! :)

Don't know Gibby, I'm still confused. The drawing does not show everything. Look at a topo map and there is more to it.

Ed, it is very vexing, right? I can't wrap it up neatly. Slide 12-1973 has Friendship written on it, an it had to have been taken right near the bridge, right before you make the left towards Speedwell. Look at the bogs on the left in the photo...they prove that is the only way it could have...

    Where is this?

I can't nail it Ed, and I can't even come close. But you can tell its on the Batona trail, and I'm guessing it is just east of the Batsto River along a minor tributary.

I am puzzled by the layout of Friendship. There were many buildings there, and some looked the same on the photos we know of. It does not make total sense to me. If we put what we know together we get this below. Is this what you remember Guy? I drove by in 1977 and remember mainly the chickens...

Ted, the slide of Herbert is marked 13 June, 1975 by someone, and the date impressed on the slide by Kodak is 8 July 75. On the burn the handwriting shows 2 June, 1975, and the date on the slide is 19 June 75. Could you be off by one year?

Yes, its the flag, meaning they had a pole there for ceremonies (probably).

Slide 12--1973 (This is quite a thought-provoking slide that is sure to raise a lot of questions and make us doubt our currently held assumptions).

I'm with you except for one critical detail Guy. The person who took the photo in mine was standing pretty high on a hill, and that is the second lake. How would the mopar get down that hill?

By the way, there is something unusual in the Hollow Field cemetery photo that is not a cross or the people. It is a symbol.

Guy, no, I don't see a dock. Below is why I think it could be the second lake. But, as shown in your photo, that is a similar cove across from the photographer, so it could be either one (in fact, I'm leaning in your favor now).

Guy, I think that is the first lake, and looking back northwest from the way they came in. Back in those days nobody would try to drive a 68 road runner or coronet back there to the second lake. It was too hilly.
