Portuguese man-of-war washes ashore in Wildwood Crest

It's supposed to be white vinegar! I found this in Corson's inlet when vacationing in Ocean City in 2016. Think this is one? Big as my head.

    Bill to allow prescribed burns

I had a reply to your post German, but I deleted it. I don't want to debate your assertion that mechanical thinning will mimic wildfire. Let's just say that I think it's not feasible, and it's quite a claim.

    Bill to allow prescribed burns

I think it's too late. Nobody in the NJFFS would be on board with ramping things up. Here is a public announcement from about a month ago from the state warden: "It is extremely important that the public understand that a moment of carelessness can cause a wildfire that puts lives and homes at...

    STOP!

Okay, sounds good. It's fascinating to me how much a person like you would have to know, and then make quick decisions under the stress of a race with all the people and money around--not to mention the risk of a wrong decision.

    STOP!

Wow, that is really an impressive resume. I know you have an engineering background, but stewardship commands a lot more of a knowledge base in regards to auto racing. How did you come to learn all the planning and execution of stewarding races? It appears you need to understand not only the...

    Fireworks

Hectic. One of my neighbors landed a bottle rocket on my roof a couple years ago. I brought it back to him the next day. :D And several weeks ago a couple kids set the woods on fire a block away with their firecracker fun.

    Ticks & Chiggers--a study

Last year, in Dover Forge, I used an old tee shirt spread out on square cardboard dangling from a fishing pole. They turned out to be Lone Star larva or nymphs.

    Ticks & Chiggers--a study

I'll have to find the old post by Al. His friend suggests that there may not be chiggers at all in New Jersey after all. He did some research on it. I told Al that I'm going to try and find some, hence this thread was started. I have not found any yet, still looking. PS: I want proof in the way...

    Ticks & Chiggers--a study

And by the way, although still looking, Al and our mutual friend may be correct in their assertion; chiggers may not be in South Jersey after all. I do not get into Cumberland, Cape May, or Salem that often, but will try. I'm not giving up yet.

    Our New State Reptile

Thanks Scott. Yes, some of these seem very doubtful. And I'm very surprised they did not include the Latin names. What about this statement: "The table below lists the municipalities in which bog turtles are known to occur (or in which there is suitable bog turtle habitat within a drainage...

Quite nice! Where were you standing Jon? Looking upstream, so you were on the east bank, but the location eludes me.

    Our New State Reptile

Yeah, I saw that line as well (the ocean-burlington county line). All that purple shading to the left is farm country, and to the right is pinelands likely affected by agriculture and other disturbances. Yes, could be some there, but I was really thinking of the heart of the pines when I posted...

Try greasing the pole too. He is obviously grasping the pole between the bands at times.
