    Thunder in the Pines

Cool storm photos. It's odd-sounding to me to hear the road names. I don't know any road names in the pines (hardly anyway). I go by memory and sight. Looks like you were on the Red Road down by Sim Place. The lake is on Nature Conservancy property.

    Those darn flies

I always wear one of those sahara desert hats with the curtain covering my neck in the back. And I do spray the hat too. It helps.

    Chigged!

I got chigged good today boys and girls. I mean really chigged. I found this nice stand of twisted yellow-eyed grass, and I bent down to take a sample, and to my surprise the entire tip of one was absolutely loaded with chiggers. I had my camera, so I thought I could get a nice close up. I...

Very cool. I can just get a plastic funnel for my hat. I have to try this just for the fun of it.

    Am I alone?

Good. I don't want to feel eccentric, tho I sometimes do. Last summer was a lot cooler than this one, but I like sticking it out (mostly). Energy is not coming down, and if it does, then we won't make progress to renewables. I read today that enough sunlight strikes the earth in 40 minutes to...

    Those darn flies

The little black ones are back again. I can't go to the garage without them attacking my legs. I have to buy one of those little raw meat traps. I like to drink them dry when they fill up with fly guts. By the way, I'm getting one of these cups for my hat while I'm out in the woods. I'll let...

    Am I alone?

Don't you hate that? They act like we little guys are just a bother, and some don't even come when they say they will. I wanted a guy to repair the top of my chimney. Very hard to get someone as it seems they are tied up elsewhere. I don't think I'd be a good mortar man.

    Am I alone?

I only have it in the addition I built, but all the ducts are just openings in the crawl space. It is a ying/yang thing with me. I'm kind of glad I can't just flip a switch and make it non-summer. By mid June I am used to it (mostly) and enjoy just taking a dip in the pool to cool off. Its...

    barren nights

I had a catbird in the bush outside my front window one year. I really enjoyed that. They are like a mockingbird. This year I have a towhee in the lot next door. I love them too. Signature birds of the pines, both of them.

    Benzettes/Ridgeway/Society Line Stone

Good one Guy! I spent last evening until dusk deep in Lebanon State Forest by Mount Misery Brook, and tonite in swampy lowland by Double Trouble. I get what you mean. The pine flies down there were voracious. Very challenging, but very rewarding. The blueberry bushes are heavy with fruit.
