    Marker found while geocaching

I too recognized the monument right away, especially with the references to the Mullica. Drank many a cold beer and slid back some ginger brandy within view of that monument. It is a great out-of-the-way spot to sit back and enjoy the remoteness of the pines along the Mullica.

    Paintball: good, bad, or ugly?

I was tempted to run a lead ball through a paintballer last year during a late winter hunt. I was in my stand for about an hour. It was prime time, about 45 minutes till dark and some A-hole paintballer drove into the woods and stops his truck. He got out and proceeded to walk up and down the...

At least 54 bears bagged: Hunt attracts protesters seeking to help wounded bruins

Here is the N.J. Fish and Wildlife link to the up-to-date kill data. It hasn't been updated since Monday though, when 136 had been checked. http://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/bearseas05.htm Bears are good to eat. Some hunters I have talked to insist they are not. It is like a stronger flavored...

    Silver Fox Inn

Well I don't think this thread had anything to do with it but I drove past the Silver Fox tonight at 6 p.m. and the parking lot was full! I am estimating 40-50 cars. I have never seen more than 3 cars in the lot in the last 30 years or so that I have paid any attention to the place. It had...

Father Accidentally Shoots Son In Leg

Guy, You would have to be there and be in their boots to know the reasons. I hunted three days this week in Pa. and Monday and Wednesday mornings were blanketed in fog that limited visibility to about 30 yards. Monday's fog was due to the melting snow and warm air (4" on the ground on...

N.J. Bear Hunt Upheld By Supreme Court

The bear hunt scheduled to start on Monday 12-5-05 will go on as planned. Last minute suits brought on by animal rights psychos were flatly denied today by the N.J. Supreme Court. Here is a link to the decision. http://www.judiciary.state.nj.us/opinions/supreme/bearhuntorder.pdf Short and...

    Some photos

You should experience Wescoat from a duck hunter's perspective. Kicking away sheets of skim ice with your shins as you set up decoys in the dark.Hearing the squawks of herons as they cruise by in the predawn light and then the whistling of wings as the pastel sky brightens over the cedars to...

    Some photos

No, they are not privately owned. I wish they were to minimize the hunting pressure. The State acquired them when they were piecing together the non-Wharton owned pieces of the Wharton State Forest. The bogs on the same road, closer to 206, are privately owned and actively worked. Boot Hill...

    D'ye fancy Scotch whisky?

Dave If I didn't worry just a little about my hepatic enzyme levels, I would have Knob Creek in my Oatmeal at breakfast. You have to try Knob Creek and Gentleman Jack at the first chance you get. And don't even get me started about my homemade wine. Steve (Behr) has had a bottle and I think...

    D'ye fancy Scotch whisky?

Ahhhh...Good Whiskey. Part of the lifeblood of a true woodsman. I love good bourbon and it is one of life's simplest pleasures at the end of a long cold day in the deer woods. Steve, Jack Daniels is a "Tennessee Whiskey" by name (check the label) and it meets the Govt. definition for...

Exploring the Desert, The Mullica, and Wescoat Bogs

63.7699 acres. There's a surveyor that wasn't shy about showing significant figures beyond that of the work at hand. 63 ac. +/- would have been more appropriate. That is my favorite duck hunting spot in the pines. Hunting pressure varies from: "What are you shooting at A--hole?, to: Am I the...

    Hunting Question

The "Pine Barrens" is a difficult area to describe as far as deer habitat goes. The habitat quality varies greatly because the area is so vast. There are agricultural fringe areas in Tabernacle and other parts of Burlington county within the "barrens" that produce trophy 130lb.+ bucks every...

Half Wet, Half Dry, All Wild....a PBX Hike

Looks like a good time. Guy, baiting for deer in N.J. was legalized about 6 years ago under a lot of pressure from the bowhunters. It spread to the shotgun and muzzleloader guys immediately. The argument from the bowhunters is that it lets you are able to make a closer, cleaner kill shot...
