    Lines on the Pines 2023

Is anyone attending this year? This year's theme is "Hoof n' Tell." I'll be there today and was honored when Linda Stanton asked me to contribute two articles to a short book she is publishing for the event. Lines on the Pines

    Winter Photos

I hope everyone is staying safe in this storm. I can't wait to get out and take some photos when the roads are better, and I shovel my Jeep out. I have some old snowstorm photos to share from when I lived in Brigantine during Winter 2017/2018. I also published a post recently with some more...

    Tabernacle Inn

I've heard a rumor from some friends that the Tabernacle Inn on Route 206 has been sold. I know it's been closed for a while, but I don't know much about it's history. If the news is correct, I don't know who bought it or what the intended use for it is. Does anyone else have any info?

Industries in the Pines - Ghost Towns

A friend and I did a guided bus trip a few Sundays ago exploring some of the abandoned industrial sites in the area. I've read Barbara Solem's Ghost Towns book and many of these sites are described in it. Very cool to see them in person. We visited Deep Run Cranberry Bog, Atsion Village, Hampton...

Lovely day kayaking on the Mullica up to Lock's Bridge

I paddled a few hours on the Mullica up to Lock's Bridge a few weeks ago, my first time kayaking since breaking my ankle right after Memorial Day. Beautiful day! Here are two of my favorite photos, and I wrote a post about it as well: Kayaking on the Mullica River.

Some rare feathered visitors are at Forsythe

I spent the day bird watching recently at Forsythe in Galloway and got to see a couple of birds who rarely come this far south: the Roseate Spoonbill and American Avocet. Beautiful! I also saw many Great and Snowy Egrets, some cormorants, a Glossy Ibis, and a Diamondback Terrapin. The green...

Anyone know what kind of frog this is?

I took a photo of this tiny frog a few summers ago. I was wondering if anyone knew what it was.

    Mayflies at Goshen Pond

I lucked out one evening this past April when I went for a hike around Goshen Pond and walked into a mayfly hatching. Magical!

    Rosa Rugosa

I took this picture last May in the dunes in North Brigantine last May. My PlantSnap app identified it as a Rosa Rugosa. Beautiful flower, but I saw some sites that said it was an invasive species. Does anyone know if that is true?

    Great Egg Harbor River Paddle

I did my first trip on the Great Egg Harbor River a couple weeks ago, putting in at Weymouth, courtesy of Winding River Campground. Some beautiful fall color starting to come in.

    Mullica River Paddle

I paddled the Mulllica yesterday from 1st Beach to Lock's Bridge with a couple of friends. Beautiful weather, and we saw many turtles sunning themselves along the way. Here are some pictures. A Red-bellied Turtle, and I think a Painted Turtle in the back. Or is that a smaller Red-bellied...

    Recommendations for Hiking Groups?

Greetings! I’m new to the forum. I’ve started doing some hiking around the Pine Barrens this year and was wondering if there were any active hiking groups in the Shamong area? - Maria
