Any plans for next April's total solar eclipse?

we drove out to madras oregon for the 2017 eclipse, which was quite the experience. I think texas will be the best shot in the US, but wow that is a drive. We have friends who are flying to the pacific coast in mexico, but that is out of our league right now

    National Monument

Wind Cave is really something. That elevator ride down tho... eek. I enjoyed the lands around the caves more than the cave itself. Make sure to check out the Journey Museum in Rapid City if you want to get a great idea of the native experience during that time. It is quite shameful. I didn't...

EHC is trying to redevelop part of the city lake park into a warehouse

hi everyone, just an update on this: Through SustainableEHC we applied for an AC Electric resiliency grant to improve this section of city lake park. We won and now are moving forward with installing kiosks, trail markers, interpretative signs, and benches. We also are going to plant trees to...

4 new trails in wharton - one is an old stage road, titled the "1808 trail"

I came across this post on FB. I'm really excited about these trails. I love how one of the trails is known as the 1808 trail, highlighting its history as a road. I hope to one day see some signage about the history Grand Opening: Four New WSF Hiking Trails Put on your hiking shoes and join us...

Our view: Promising new DEP steps on pinelands use, protection

I’d like to see the details about the program. Especially regarding how the funds will be used. Will the money go to enforcement and protection, or just go into the general fund to get spent outside the pines? I can’t really see a permit system helping stop the destruction of sensitive areas...

    Charcoal pit locations?

No clay under this one. There was about 3-4” of ash and sand, and then it turned into just sugar sand

    Spung near the EHC lake

There is a spung (or at least it appears to be a spung) near the EHC lake. I've been meaning to get back there for quite some time, but i've never attempted to go during winter. Every other time I've tried during spring/summer, the brush was too thick to get anywhere close to this feature. I...

    Charcoal pit locations?

I want to share some photos and update this thread. Gabe and I walked around the EHC lake a month or two ago. He pointed out a spot on LIDAR that had potential as a charcoal mound. Today I was finally able to get over there and check it out, and it is indeed a charcoal mound. I took my 11 year...

    Tar Kiln Locations?

Those kilns sure look similar to a spot on LIDAR by me that I've yet to check out. Gabe pointed it out to me on LIDAR when we were recently walking around the area. Once the snow melts I plan to take a look Here is the spot https://boydsmaps.com/#19.00/39.564004/-74.616150/lidar2021bw/0.00/0.00

Old road running through Mordecai Swamp

Great discussion. Kemp's Nest of Rebel Pirates is a fun read about the battle if anyone reading this hasn't heard of the book. I'm sure many of you have already read it. From what I remember (i don't have my copy on me), the British never pushed past Chestnut Neck on foot or in boats b/c of...

Old road running through Mordecai Swamp

I love tracing out these old roads. It can be really hard to trace them through the cedar swamps. Nature seems to take them back faster compared to roads through the uplands.

EHC is trying to redevelop part of the city lake park into a warehouse

Good news! About 150 people showed up to the meeting. So many people spoke out against this project. No one from the public spoke in favor of redevelopment. We were able to get council to rescind their vote from Nov 18th that accepted the planning board's determination to classify the lake as a...

EHC is trying to redevelop part of the city lake park into a warehouse

I think there will be a big turnout tomorrow. Our goal is to get them to rescind the vote they held on Nov 18th (that wasn't on the agenda) I understand the need to bring in business, but I will never support taking away a public park to achieve those goals.

EHC is trying to redevelop part of the city lake park into a warehouse

i'd also like to see the plans, but even if it is a top notch development project, they are still taking land from public ownership and giving it to a private developer for profit. That is enough to oppose the project, at least in my opinion

EHC is trying to redevelop part of the city lake park into a warehouse

It's very clear that these lands belong to the public. I'm hopeful the public will prevail. It is sad that the project has gotten this far.

EHC is trying to redevelop part of the city lake park into a warehouse

Some info on the deed... This is the deed, pre-typewriters. The city park is referenced on page 462. On page 467, the deed reads "And it is hereby particularly remarked and conditioned, that all the above named and described Public Places and avenues, streets, and back streets are forever to...

EHC is trying to redevelop part of the city lake park into a warehouse

To concerned citizens, The Egg Harbor City Council has started the process of condemning the 400 acre City Lake Park. This park encompasses the land around and including the Egg Harbor City Lake & Campground. You can get an idea of the enormous size of this park by looking at the parcel map...
