Anybody here plunge ?? the big event this year is FEB 26.
I am talking about the biggest & best one in the country if not the world.
Pt. Pleasant Beach N.J. for N.J. SPECIAL OLYMPICS.
This will be year 6 for me. It is truly an experience if you've never done.
And it really is for a very good cause. I am not even really much of a cold weather person but this is the exception. I've been in 33 deg. water when it was 29 deg. out. and all other extremes. there is much to do on Jenks boards that day as they open many places up. good food good people, free stuff.
Also a small but very clean, interesting & nice aquarium. My wife & kids love coming with. ( Although I plunge without them, the kids want to but the inherent threats from the wife keep me from letting them)
NJ101.5 hosts it.
I was interviewed for the Coors lite website one year, that was cool.
By far the greatest privelege I have had to date is being one of four fellows
to first plunge and then go back in carrying a gentleman paralized from waist down who raised funds himself last year to donate & insisted on going in himself.
There were not too many dry eyes when we carried him in.
Point Pleasant is special to me as when I was younger I lived a couple doors down from the Coast Guard base right on the Manasquan Inlet.
Anyone who does it let me know, I would be glad to hook up.
If you want to try it go to www.njpolarplunge.org for the info.
It's not just a bunch of drunk wierdos looking for an excuse to be stupid.
This is a real chance to raise money for people who can use it.
There is no one type, style, form of person...It's all types trust me.

Any takers ??

I might be willing to take the plunge
Tom

Signing up is the easy part... Go to the website get the info.
Register early trust me !!!
Get some donations in, people really do come out of the woodwork
for the cause.
And then prepare for a first hand feel for what Hypothermia is all about.
You can actually feel the blood vessels constrict, your breathing gets labored, muscles tighten up, and then you gotta try to get back out past a wall of people. After that the boardwalk seems just like a walk in summer..
If there is no snow on the beach & your feet don't freeze.
Sounds great don't it !!

I'm a cheapo, but I pledge $5 bucks if you do it Tom.

I am most certainly not soliciting, I would never do that over this site.
I was curious if anyone participated.
( It really is a cool day out on the boards by the way for spectators )
I will PM you the info though as to the foundation's info who to make check to and mail to me if you really want. And the five bucks, you would be surprised at how many of those people get. It all counts and it all adds up.
I work with a woman who has a son with downs syndrome. When you see the enjoyment that comes from what this organization offers kids it melts the heart and really makes you thankful for all you have.
( but we are still about 3,000 loonies for doing this )

I have a friend of mine who does the plunge every year also, yesterday as a matter of fact he mentioned it and I told him I would be more than glad to cheer for him from the sand.

Well today is the day !!!! And what FOIN weather we have for the event. Perfect temps. My brethren at Sea Ilse took a butt whoopin last week but the interviews on the radio had them very cheerful. If my wife won't absolutely kill me I intend to do four up the coast one year. Ocean City, Atlantic City, Sea Ilse City, and Point Pleasant. Cool huh !.
Anyone nearby come on out ! it really is a fun day as thee boardwalk gets reopened and the Aquarium is open and there is food and fun to be had.
And... you can still sign up last minute with a 100.00 donation.
Whatever Ya'll do, enjoy your day, I know I will.
