I think Black Sabbath were the quintessential heavy metal band. Led Zeppelin were too diversified to be catagorized into a genre that specific. Certainly Zep had an influence in that genre though.

Don't get me wrong, I love Zep and Sabbath, but when it comes to rock bands, I have to go with AC/DC.

They weren't very original. They weren't all that creative. Sure, they're albums are tough to tell apart. But holy crap, they rock like no others.

As for good bands from the late '90s and '00s, I need to add Dropkick Murphies to my list, I am ashamed that I forgot them. Punk/Hardcore/Irish music from Boston, Mass. I still need their new album, but I love their first four, and they put on an amazing live show.

Led Zeppelin basically got me through my freshmen year at Rutgers New Brunswick..much to the dismay of north jersey kids who I don't think knew who zeppelin was. Gallows pole, over the hills and far away, and battle of evermore are awesome songs. From the late 80's I forgot Guns and Roses, appetite for destruction and Lies. Lies has my favorite song that I always listen to before going to the pines, sets me in the right mood. One of the only recent bands I like is Incubus, especially morning view.
