We headed out today since we both had the day off from work, and decided to roam around on the Parker Preserve and Speedwell tract borders. But first we visited Eagle and were greeted by the dogs from the house there. They were just puppies basically, and had quite a bit of energy, especially with their bark. They followed us everywhere we walked on the road barking all the time, so we decided to leave. We then headed over to the Parker Preserve and roamed around in the bogs, but our footwear was not what we needed for that area. We visited a few of the pump houses and I got bit by a lizard when I caught it. I have caught them numerous times before and they bit away and never hurt, but this one was different. It had razor teeth :) even though it did not break the skin.

Anyway, after finding numerous property stones and monuments we headed over to Hampton Furnace to photograph the building there. Here is another view for my “Then and Now” gallery. These photo’s taken from opposite ends show the amount of theft and destruction since 1976. Actually I believe it was 1975 but the development date on the slide said 1/76. The yellow arrow is pointing to the same location in each photo.

I think it is too late. And if they don't have any fear of taking the building, I doubt they would think twice about destroying the fence. It would be nice to see if it did help, but they won't spend the money.

I was at Hampton furnace today at about 11:00, it is a shame to see how little the state seems to care about Wharton tract. I took my son for a hike down to the railroad bridge. Someone has been very busy in the area with what I guess is a fat cat, one of those motorcycles with the fat tires. They are just tearing up the trails. There was also a bunch of pallets on the tracks, just looked trashy.
I know a lot of folks on this site ride in fact I used to ride, but now I feel like if it has a negative impact on the woods than it should not be allowed.

We were there at 11:24:31. That is the exact second I took one of my photo's. So we must have just missed you.

Were you at Friendship before that? Have a truck?

Last weekend they had a motorcycle rally in that area, and we had some serious ruts to go over all along the road from the ruins to 206. On some of the corners where they turned onto that road they had a large bank of dirt built up that we had to plow through. A semi major bump for my car to go over. Even though I have no problem with them having those rally’s, they do really dig up the road. And anyway that road needs some serious fixing, as does Carranza, and especially Speedwell Friendship road. But then again I don’t want to see it too nice or more people will use it as a cut through. Then they may want to pave it.

You know, we were there Saturday, and it looked to me like the ruins were significantly more crumbled than they were last summer. Was that my imagination?

I thought so too, but my photo's don't show much of a change.

No I have a silver monte carlo I parked just around the corner from there.

If you parked closer to the tracks from the ruins then we did not go that way. We came in from Carranza and left towards 206.
