I recently revisited an area which was thought to be a sawmill site in Stafford Forge. I wanted to make a day of it and decided to hike in from Rt 539. I was blazing my own trail and using fire cuts, trying to stay off any roads as much as possible on my way in. While walking parallel to Pollypod Road, I came across an area that had trees tagged in blue. Some of these trees were laying on the ground. Each tag had a identification number. There were also two holes that had been dug out by hand. The location is roughly seventy-five feet by seventy-five feet square. I was curious to what was being studied here. Fire recovery? (A small blue tag, barely noticeable, is all that marks the location along side of Pollypod Road.)

USDA has been doing some biomass studies in the area for a few years now . . . could be them. I also remember hearing something about a possible SPB infestation as well as some other pest that I don't quite recall (wasn't familiar with it, so i forgot . . . ), so it could be someone (anyone, really) doing those related surveys.
