"Amazon is under contract to acquire 84 acres at the property’s west end, occupied by dozens of stables, according to past minutes from township committee meetings. The land ends at a fence along Leipzig Avenue, which leads to the Atlantic City Expressway."

I think this is the location they are describing

I guess that’s a good location for them because of the proximity to the Atlantic City Expressway and the Garden State Parkway, but I’m not looking forward to the additional traffic congestion when I go to BJ’s or the Hamilton Mall.

I love Starcade, the smoothie stand and the record store at Hamilton and am increasingly anxious that the mall is just gonna shutter any day. The last three years especially it's gotten more and more liminal space/dead.

I haven't been up around there since before covid. Used to go to the Hamilton Mall but it has been on the decline for a long time. I just disklike that whole area, too much development and traffic. From my home, I prefer going West to the Cumberland Mall / Union Lake Crossing. I can get in and out of there on the back roads with no problems.

And half the sales tax!

Yeah, the Enterprise Zone with reduced sales tax was great but we discussed that before and when I looked it up, it said the program began in 1988 and was scheduled to expire in 2023. Did that not actually happen? Was just there a few days ago but didn't even look at the tax on the receipt.

[edit]Looks like it has been extended to 2029!

I think Malls in general are in decline around the country because more people are shopping online. I can remember when there was a dozen places to eat at the Food Court at the Hamilton Mall. Now it looks like a ghost town.

And there's this..... racetrack & condos at Bader Field.
That one is huge. The guy building it is one of the owners of the Showboat property/water park. That property has been vacant for a very long time. It will be nice to see it used for something other than parking.

Might not be very many jobs at that new Amazon distribution center...

"According to the report, documents show that the ultimate aim of Amazon’s in-house robotics department is to automate 75 percent of all operations, and if it is successful in making 160,000 fewer hires by 2027, the company would reportedly save 30 cents on each item it packs and delivers to customers in the US."

"Despite already pushing ahead with building warehouses that employ few humans, the NYT report claims that Amazon is planning for the eventual impact on affected communities and the potential backlash by participating in local events to establish a reputation as a 'good corporate citizen.' The internal documents also discuss the avoidance of terms such as 'automation' and 'AI'"

On a lighter note, I used to renew this guy's sand mining permit every two years with Pinelands. All that mining was done with just a dragline. He gave me and my buddies free run of the place for several years to bass fish and whack geese. The mined material was low quality, for the most part, with a high clay content. His permitted depth was 70 feet but he never got much past 60. I used to put my Jon boat in there and do the soundings for his permit renewal.

He took most of the material to the Philadelphia Int. Airport when they were doing an expansion. Killer bass fishing and drinking ice cold beers on many summer nights around that pond. He folded the operation then died not long after. The property was sold to some developers but not much ever transpired.

If Boyd's Maps were available in the 90's, the owner might have seen this warning about the material. :)

The other cool thing was there was a tunnel beneath the AC Expressway. The house next to the sand mine had horse barns and the horses were run at the AC race track. The owners would walk them the horses under the highway by passing through the tunnel and over to the track. X marks the spot.
