All I can say is I can see why Mr.Amper had to give it to Steve Levy. Suffolk's county exec thinks because he is preserving twice as much as his predecssor, it makes him the almighty.
But Suffolk is falling far short of preserving land. And the clock is ticking. And while Suffolk drags it's feet on getting those land purchases, the developers are gobbling up open space.
Take a look at some of the photos of 2 pieces of land that should remain forever wild, but it may be too late, as developers have their proposals out, and in same cases, it's a matter of weeks before woods are leveled for more housing for the rich built by the illegal scab aliens.
Sign of the times....

Wow! Thanks for posting that video. So Levy calls Amper an extremist on camera. He doesn't deny the contributions from the building association, and tries to turn it around "how much did you contribute to my campaign." Man that is rough. Amper clearly has strong conviction but I don't think he was given enough time on that news show to argument the benefits of preservation. It is a tough battle, uphill. The public, unfortunitely, is short sighted and impatient. The future is dark I think for the remaining open space in LI I am afraid. It is a shame because, as evident by your pictures, it is a beautiful forest.
