Another dumb question

In recent readings I've seen "macadam" roads mentioned. Would that be what I've come to know as a chip and seal road? Tar sprayed down and then stone added to make an asphalt like surface? I'm pretty sure that's what it is but I just wanted "official" confirmation. I'm sure there are lots of different names for this type of road surfacing.

God forbid I should actually take the time to look it up.
