I guess the backpack does not hinder them. It must make it troublesome for preening.

It is placed out of the way on their back between the wings and is pretty small, doubt it would adversely affect preening. D25, nicknamed Nacote, was hatched last year and made the trip to Canada and back and appears to have flown over the cabin we used to have. :D It seems he has taken a liking to Forsythe's Oceanville site for the winter.
