Another Puzzle

I noticed these marks last Spring. It's a real puzzle to figure out how this happened. This is near Westecunk Creek just outside of Stafford Forge. There are other similar ones in this pine plains area. I can't find any old roads that go to it.

The only clue I found was on this 1972 aerial on the left. Since it's only a snap shot of my open Edge window, it's probably allowable to show it. See the sandy areas, how they kind of correlate with the gouges?

That's an area with hundreds of little 0.06 acre parcels. Not sure if it's relevant, but I find these areas interesting. Geology is "upland gravel", so maybe that's what they were digging for?

Yes, see that now. Maybe sanding the bogs? I wonder if it was state land and they were keeping it quiet.

I was wondering about those. Don't remember seeing those features at other bogs.
