Any serious birders here?

For those that have not heard, a pretty rare bird, a Common Chaffinch, is visiting the state, not in the pines but a bit further north. Only the 3rd sighting in North America. It's in a private yard and the home owner has given week day permission for folks to look; they have no idea what they have done to their peace and quiet Details are on the NJ Bird list site.

I know I'm pretty annoyed about that . . . wanted to make a trip out for it tomorrow, but I'm not doing that without some good confirmation first. Already got the snowy, but sadly I can't go for the finch, as the homeowners don't want visitors on the weekend.

Has anyone claimed the hundred dollar reward for a picture of a Gyr in the Meadowlands? The NJMC was at one time offering a reward for a picture confirming a Gyr was present in that area. It has been a few years since I heard anything of it.

Meadowlands is a perfect place for gyr. I remember looking for it on the way to and from work in Englewood. There is ample waterfowl and pigeons for food.
