Area Closed Off

I have not traveled down Hawkins Bridge Road in a while and noticed this past weekend they have blocked off this area with the plastic signs. They have four plastic signs blocking this one instead of the usual one or two. They really don't want you to drive there.

I noticed that semi recently someone has power washed it. Much cleaner.

That looks like a nice dry area. I don't think I've ever been there. I want to go.

I was there right after the FFS burned it. It was really nice. I have photos somewhere and will look.

Thanks. That's what I was thinking. I really dislike Google Maps and avoid it as much as possible.

The last time I tried to drive down to Hawkins from Friendship, the washouts were very deep, and I turned back shortly after the turnoff for the monument for the blueberry field that’s mostly a giant granite block. I imagine someone got stuck there.

I drove this road last week, and saw one higher area with sand and big spaces to set up a chair and relax.

When I was there in spring of last year there to show my sons friend. There was a chair on one of the foundations/concrete slabs and a bunch of beer cans. They asked "who would leave thier garbage here in the woods?"

I thought it was a dead end and I don’t remember it looking like a party spot the last time I looked.

Who knows. Maybe there is a reason but I suspect just because the road does not go anywhere it was blocked just like many other roads in Wharton. The road shows up as far back as 1951 and by 1970 it is the same as it is today. But now it is closed!
