About three weeks ago my son and I were in a fairly remote savannah deep in Wharton, about an hour before sunrise. We heard a barking, followed by a howl, followed by the entire pack howling. After a 5 seconds or so, about 1/2 mile away upstream, a second pack answered.

The first pack went nuts, and we stood in the darkness listening to the two packs calling out. I could feel the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

EDIT: With Boyds help, I figured out that I have to link video to my Youtube channel instead of directly uploading. Here is the link to the coyote's howling in Wharton forest. There are two packs competing with each other. Turn the sound way up to hear it clearly. If you are wearing headphones, make certain the you do not blow your ears out.

A few years back, I was night hiking on the Batona through Parker Preserve. Around 2 o clock you could hear multiple packs yipping but not howling.
