Just a point about the 1973 numbers of bald eagle breeding pairs. This article, as well as several others e've seen have stated that there were "410" or "470" or even "717" breeding pairs in the "continental United States". What they be saying is that that was the pre-1973 estimate for the "lower 48 states". Alaska, also one of the "continental" states has always had beaucoup breeding eagles and the population in that "continental" state was never endangered.
I was surprised to see several balds - one adult and several first- to fourth-year juveniles in the vicinity of the Big Sioux River a mile from my place that opened some ice-free channels for a few days during the January thaw. It's cold again. The river is totally iced again. They're gone again.
These are living in a Core Creek county Park at a lake. It has been several winters since this lake has frozen totally over. It's just great to see them here in metropolis.

It is great to see the rebounding population. This summer & fall I've seen a pair near my cabin in the poconos. It's nice to see there are now some in Bucks too. I'm always awe struck when I see them flying overhead.
