They have a theory. If you drain the lake you kill the plants that grow and bother some people when they swim and boat. I think its silly. They used a mechanical harvester about 20 years ago.

There used to be a swimming dock on my side of the lake. They took it out in 1985 because some genius said..."gee, if someone gets hurt, the town will get sued". But, while it was there it was heavily used, and we all had fun. And, as a bonus because we splashed and jumped in the water a lot, the plants naturally did not like to grow tall around the dock. Now no one ever swims on that side. Duh!

I hate the death of innocence. Get government the hell out of our lives. The new smoking ban is the last straw. A guy oughta be able to run his business the way he sees fit. Don't get me started.........

I agree with everything you said except this. It is SO NICE to be able to go out to a bar (in NYC) and come home NOT reaking of cigarette smoke.

With Laura pregnant, the only places where we CAN go out now are in New York. I'll be happy when I can go out around here and not have to breathe in that crap.

grr

I dont agree with that at all. Until cigs get banned from production and become 'illegal', people should be allowed to smoke in public establishments within reason. Yeah I know it causes cancer and is so bad for you, but hey, people make their own choices. If they do the ban, I would consider making a serious movement to have all bars close down because Alcohol causes liver cancer, kills thousands in driving deaths every year, and is addictive as well. I know it sounds absurd, but in that case, you could make a good argument for fast food establishments as well.

What a bunch of hypocrites. So for the Democrats to say it's ok to smoke in a casino, but you can't smoke anywhere else? I have seen it all.

All animals are equal, some are just more equal than others

Ok, so you smoke a cigarette in a bar. I didn't make the choice to breathe in your smoke, but I have to as a consequence of your decision.

If you drink, it only affects me if you drive (which is illegal) or if you start a fight with me (and then I'll kick your ass.)

You know what else sucks? Going to a concert and reeking like sweaty people. And the annoyance of drunk people in a bar. And can you imagine how much disease must be passing around in places like that--I didn't make the choice to breathe germs in, either.

Hopefully the law-making pioneers of NJ will take that next logical step and ban people from all public places.

I think all establishments that want to allow smoking ought to be able to put a sign out front that is a drawing of a lit cigarette. If you don't want to go in, nobody will force you.

Also, why can't a place have separate buildings right next to each other, one for smokers and one not?

I must not go to enough concerts because I have never come home reeking of sweaty people.

You can't compare being forced to breathe in smoke to being around drunk people. Besides, you go to a bar to drink. Not smoke, unless it's a cigar bar.

Who even thinks that breathing in smoke can be good for you?

You aren't forced. You can drink at home.

And people breathing in smoke is good for me. it pays my bills.
on april 15th NJ establishments everywhere will open doors to finicky non-tipping pains in the ass who head out to a restaraunt or bar once in a blue moon. they are simultaneously kicking out the chain-smoking booze hounds that come in every day (at great detriment to their own personal health) and drop cash---ensuring everyone in the business is actually able to pay their bills.

so in may when i'm making 1/4 the money i make now and the creditors are calling my (about to be shut off) cell phone -- the words that come to mind probably won't be "aaah, this air is FRESH!"

Sorry Bob but I can't go along with that. In Vermont there has been no smoking for many many years and the bars are lined with cars when I drive by at night. The restaurants are full and nobody seems to mind. The people there are basically no different than us here for the most part, so if they seem to not mind, then I see no reason why things should be any different here.

Lets wait and see what happens, but I am willing to bet that there is a silent majority out there that would love to go to a particular restaurant but don't because of the smoke. When the threat is gone they may come out of the woodwork.

Some people do go to a bar to smoke believe it or not. I know many people that only smoke when drinking. While we're on the subject, I don't go to bars to smell farts. I think farting should be illegal. Of course I'd be in big trouble then. lol

I agree with you on the long-term scale. Most definatly things will rebound--eventually. But i don't have many many years to wait before I can make money. I need to make money april 16th. and that silent majority doesn't affect my bar. our smoking section is tiny (compared to non-smoking) and literally walled off from the rest of the place. i know my regulars (literally) and they won't be around like they are now.

its not just the money--everything about it annoys me. if i wanted the government to make every damned decision for me I wouldn't live in America.
