From Linda Stanton:

Hi!!!

Could you please remind your readers about the Batsto Pig Iron 5K on Sunday, August 13, 2006?

There is a 5K run, a 2 mile history walk through the historic village and KIDS' Dashes. Smokey Bear will be there for a few hours as well. Also making an appearance is the Pig Placement Network, Plexus Publishing, REI, Bel Haven Paddlesports and the Pinelands Preservation Alliance to name a few.

Hope to see you there!

Linda

So I was there today, helping to hand out water to the runners. The event went over well - I am sure the Batsto Citizens Committee made a bunch of money.

I also talked with Mike Pippin from the PPA. I had hoped to meet Russ Juleg but he wasn't there. Plexus Publishing was there too. They just have an amazing catalog of Pine Barrens related books.

After that, I drove through the woods up from Batsto to Carranza Rd., cut through Tabernacle, Chatsworth, Woodmansie, etc. on the way back home. Had the top down on the Jeep and got a sun burn!

What an awesome day to be out in the woods.

It was a great day. At 6 PM I was on North Whitesbog road. I was sitting on my tool box of the pickup with my back against the cab, just gazing down the sandy road, as it wound around the bend. The sky was still blue, the breeze was cool, the pines were green, and it was very quiet. I sat there about 20 minutes. It was great.
