Not a problem, thanks to our Governor.
Hiking trails are going to be a real mess after all this. Smart move would be to let the various trail maintenance crews in before opening to the public. Unlikely to happen, in my opinion though.

We had wind gusts at 50 MPH for much of the day last time. The base wind forecast of 25-35 MPH (my local forecast says 25-30) is the same as then, IIRC. Just small branches came down then.

But - yeah - it could be bad and I'm not looking forward to it. I have lots of little trails on my own property and spend many hours maintaining them, where I'm the only "crew". :D So I'm painfully aware of the kind of damage that can be done by a storm. Let's hope for the best.

What's nervous-making about this forecast is not only the s-w gusts in the thunderstorm but also the straight-line winds when the ensuing cold front moves through.

We learned what "derecho" (spellink?!) meant 10 years ago, when half our big white pine trees got decapitated.

I scrambled up on the roof tonite and covered my skylight with a thing-a-ma-jig I made out of plywood. I'm too old for this stuff.

Actually, the forecast has gotten worse. Now 25-40 mph winds with 60-70 mph gusts. Ugh. :siren:

True to my motto of "never let a good rain storm go to waste", was at the grocery store when they opened at 7:00, very few people there. Rain was pouring down but no wind at all. All stocked up now for another two weeks. Got back home just as the wind stared blowing. It's picking up now and the gusts are getting stronger.

Yeah, I remember the derecho very well, it made a real mess around here. Power was out for 5 days, but no damage to my place. Wouldn't want to go through that again. Generator is all ready to go today, really hoping it won't be needed.

I always take 4 day weekend on holidays and today was no exception. Not a great day but I will take it anyway.

Was just looking at the NWS forecast map, and it is a little better than that regional warning posted above. This is what it says for my place, also the same for Vineland, Chatsworth and Medford.

Windy, with a south wind 20 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 60 mph.

But if you click other spots on the map, there's some variation, for example here's Toms River

Windy, with a south wind 20 to 25 mph increasing to 30 to 35 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 65 mph.

You can check other areas here by clicking your location on the map. The forecast with then update.

Power just went out here, damn. :argh: Refrigerator is full from my shopping trip, so I guess it's time to fire up the genny. At least I got through lunch and did the dishes.
