GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. - April 18, 2009 (WPVI) -- A fast-moving forest fire burned more than 300 acres in southern New Jersey on Saturday, but there were no reports of injuries or homes being damaged. .

Authorities said the fire, which broke out along the border between Galloway Township and Egg Harbor City, was reported at about 4 p.m. and briefly caused some evacuations in the Atlantic County communities.

Several area fire departments responded to the scene, and about half of the blaze had been contained by 6:30 p.m.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Saturday night

More rainy weather ahead for the next few days - that should help. Looks like we are finally making up for the very dry weather of the past year.
 
Forecasting 1" - 2" for this system. That should bring us up close to normal for the year. Yesterday's super low humidity (24 per cent) combined with the high spotty winds were responsible for the warning. I heard it on marine weather saturday morning (it surprised me as I thought last weeks rain had lowered the fire warning). Still waiting for the leaves to spread and shield the floor from the sun and wind. The water table is still low though!
